Washer jets and funny smell!!
« on: October 30, 2005, 22:08:09 »
Travelling home today from Suffolk I used the washer jets on the windscreen, and smelt some strange odour, but put it down to the car in front.

Used them again later and smelt it again.

At first I thought it smelt like a burning clutch.  Now I'm not so sure.  Smells as if something is burning out, or going to burn outt.

Any ideas???

The washer jets are close to the air intake on most cars and so you can/will get a waft of washer fluid when you use them - you can buy scented washer fluid to give you car a fresh smell! - have you tried smelling you washer fluid to ensure it hasn't got contaminated or gone off, or is just exeptionally smelly?

This happened to me durin the summer.  I solved it by holding the wahsers on for about 10 minutes until all the fluid had been emptied out and then topped it up with fresh clean water and a little washer fluid solution.  Smell gone.  I guess if you regularly top it up, a portion of the water is just getting older and smellier all the time.

Hi,

Same thing to me, smelt like pond scum, I drove around with the rear washer on all the time to empty the tank, cleaned it out and filled with freshness, now I have a refreshing blast of clean smell :D

get a bottle of cif lemon bathroom moose (or however that is spelt) and spray it out of the window, not only is it really good at getting rid of bugs, but it's fun to do and smells lemony

I had wondered if someone had done that beast!!!

However, I finally got a chance to look at it.  Drained the bottle, both jets going simultaneously.  Refilled with nice new stuff, and bingo it smells sooooo much better!!

Had to go and buy a bottle of washer fluid, as I had none and it cost me £45!!!!  I ended up buying two seat covers as well!!!

Thats cheep last time I brought washer fluid I came out of rimmer brothers £700 pounds poorer (but the sports exhaust was worth it) Even better was the stud set for holding on the headders no more need for three pairs of hands to fit manifolds with gaskets
One G-WAC Disco new inner wings,New disc all round, new ball-joints, replaced inner-sills orange polybush new springs and shocks just the engine and g-box to do with full sport ss-exhaust (now she says I cannot take it off road) So I've got another one (well rolling shell) now where was that scorpionracing parts list
