Sorry, I can't help but I'm curious ... why do you want/need to know the temperature of your exhaust gas? :?

Because if you start playing with your TDi and the EGT gets too high...  you can break the engine ;-)

ive heard that the high max temp on a 200tdi is about 500 degrees any one able to clarify this or pass me on some info about this as i been messing with the pump again but im just playing safe id like to know the limits if possible    or what else i can do  i have done the following to increase
turned the boost actuating rod in towards actuator to shorten length which increases boost
smoke power limiter screw on top pump under cap turned downwards
turned diagaphram under 4 screws its sat about 2pm if looking from wing
turned down the daisy wheel a few notches
took washer out alltogether to free up movement of diaghphram
turned the power screw at back off pump 1x turn and adjusted the idle back down and slighltyley turned the smoke limiter screw to back of the smoke a little when under full load she only gives a grey haze when i power down she gives a quick puff thats a bit darker
ive got performance exhaust and intercooler fitted engine temp running about 103 degrees-120 which i belive is cool is there any more i can do to increase the power and touqe!   its so addictive  regards colin

Have you tried cleaning out the intercooler? I've been meaning to do mine for a while but not yet got around to it. I've heard it said a few times that it's well worth doing as oily stuff gets in there and reduces its efficiency.

If you have then get a bigger one!

no i havent but its only been on since march /april this year and i disconnected the sump breather pipe which is where alot of that oil comes from so hopefully it should be clean in there
i would not go for a bigger intercooler as i like to offroad and all they do is fill with mud at front and straight away you loose evecincy i kept to same size just a drop in replacement and also keeping big fan on as this tends to pull the air through effectivley when you leave the couling in place whilst offroading but they do tend to spray water every where but she diesel so no worries maybe im just being greedy like i said this power thing gets addictive i want more and more how much can you get out of a 200tdi

If you look in the Maplin catalouge you can get a theremomoter that you just point at a surface for a temperature. No good while you are driving but OK for setting it up.

Not much help I'm afraid..  exhaust temperature is directly related to the engine workload, turbo workload and fuel usage...  so it needs to be there when you are driving to be any use.

would prefer one that you plump into the manifold and a probe to give accurate reading thinking of looking at some aircraft ones as they seem to be alot cheaper like the marine also are cheaper  seen a few automotive models 170 quid ! i think not

I've found this link which might help. It's not directly related to a Diesel TDi but the principle are the same. The best place to fit one on a tdi is exactly where the EGR was / is.

Hope this helps....
