Replacing Fan for Kenlowe

It's probably a subject that's been done to death but....
Anyone got a view/advice on wisdom or otherwise of fitting a kenlowe in place of the original fan on a 300tdi??

i have fitted a 16"pacet fan on my 200 tdi and it works a treat. got mine off ebay £60 pound but it did take me a while to get one for that price.some bloke bought it for a kit car but never fitted it apart from a ripped box all brand new.

i have been toying with this idea for some time now, especially lately with having trouble with the viscous on my 2.5TD. I posted a similar question on another forum and got so many views to the alleged power saving/economy of a kenlowe, i was no better off.

Kenlowe quoted me £137.24 for the 16" fan, as usual you can pay up to and above that on eBay.

may be more worthwhile on a 300TDI?

Well worth doing as the fuel saved will be good and also if you do any water runs or flood work you can switch it off unlike the original. Save you braking owt.

I've just ordered one for my 200tdi from Paddocks (£129) :D  Will try to take some pics while fitting and let you know any short/long term benifits :wink:

BTW had to order the isolation swith direct from Kenlowe. Nice people gonna stick one in the post for £7 incl postage.

I used one off a Citroen BX (it was scrap, even before I started on it !) which I found fits perfect in the ledge at the bottom of the radiator on my '91 V8. I made a small bracket to brace it to the top bar and that's all it needed ! few wires and a relay and that was it - took far longer to get the nut on the old viscous fan off :(  

I've not put an automatic switch on it yet, just got a lead to the cabin. In normal driving it never needs to be on, airflow at 30mph is enough to cool it (and it was at the end of August too) I just flick it on when I get to a lane. As Miniman suggested I switch it off going through deep water too.

Well worth checking around the local scrapyards, will only cost you about a fiver then.

If you use the Kenlowe fans with the shrouds that touch the radiator core, I would recommend leaving the shrouds off. Because the rad is rubber mounted and the fans 'twang' about a bit, they can break the core, especially if you hit tree stumps under the mud  :oops:

Removing the shrouds has made a small amount of cooling difference, but the fans still cope perfectly well. And they never come into contact with the radiator core.

Addition...
This applies to the fans that mount on the body rather than through the core so that there is relative movement between fan and core.
I guess it might be less of a problem if it is the type that mounts through the core.

i was thinking foe one on my 90 but dont know what one to go for as i have the 2.8 isuzu ??????????????? :shock:

It's not really related to the engine except for the amount of heat it generates! If you go for the biggest fan you can get in there, it will simply be on for less time.
