Propshaft vibrations
« on: November 09, 2005, 14:55:38 »
I am getting vibrations from my front propshaft it doesn't affect me on the road because i have got free wheeling hubs, but if i engage them and go over 40 mph the front propshaft vibrates badly. I'm suspecting its the UJ's that are worn, is it worth putting new UJ's on or just bang a whole new propshaft with UJ's on it. I get quite a few clunks from it when i am off roading as well, could this cause any damage to the diff because of the slack?

Replacing the u/j's is fairly easy, and a lot cheaper than a whole new prop

You need to check them to make sure, but certainly sound like it though

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

have u got free wheeling hubs on the front, if not i would think about getting some coz it stops the prop and shafts wearing out.

yes they are on the front you can only put them on the front axle because power is sent to the rear axle and if you had them on the rear the splines would be sheared off the half shafts. Front UJ's are knackered anyway so theres no cure except to fit new ones, this don't bother me though because it doesn't vibrate because i have free wheeling hubs.
