I was passing the Arriva bus depot in Wakefield this afternoon & screeched to a halt, as I saw the beastie below in the yard.

It's known to me & has featured on my 'WebShots' for quite some time.

It had just recovered a single-decker from another part of the City.

Sadly I missed the unhitching.

I'll have to tell the father-in-law to let me know about any more recoveries if I'm on 'day-off, as he's a roving Safety/Engineering Manager for Arriva & that depot is in his area
(well, he used to be the workshop manger at that depot anyway)

Not that much shorter than a single-decker.
They've also got an American Ford pick-up with a rather large (V8?) diesel & that goes like the brown Horse by-product substance off a shovel.

Got recovered by this Peterbuilt last december. Powerful motor, three rear axles, but bl##dy uncomftable after 150miles( a vast amount of which was over 70mph).

It's funny;
Given the vast distances they always seem so cramped & a complete ergonomic disaster compared to Euro-trucks. Access/egress excepted (big steps over the fuel tank)
Vast amounts of power, 600BHP is not that uncommon (SAE rating though, not DIN)
High geared for speed & cruising, allegations of 100mph+ aren't unknown :shock:

Seem to remember they have a few yanks do they not?
Used to see them about quite a lot.
Cheers, Karl..

Yes, they've got a couple of Peterbilts & (I think?) 2 of the Ford pick-ups.
They seem to have moved premises, as the last time I went past there the garage forecourt was empty.
They were on Wakefield Road at Ossett, more or less opposite the end of Milner Way (where ARCO is)

They've moved a bit further up the road, the new place used to be the MAN dealers
