Battary charging

Can any one tell me do you have to disconect the battary befor puting it on charge overnight? Its a 1994 softdash Range Rover, will just puting the charger streight on wreck any of the elec's in the car?

From a safety point of view it's always best to remove the battery from the vehicle. They have been known to go BANG!

I myself have never bothered disconnecting before charging, if you intend to put it in a low trickle charge, you should be ok, the problem with disconnecting you loose all memory functions on the radio, also the alarm will be out too, and sometimes reconnecting can cause problems with resetting them

If you have one of these new type chargers that boost then cycle the battery between 97% & 100% you should be fine leaving it connected, and as already mentioned, avoid all the hassle of resetting some electrical systems.

However if its an old one that just ramps in charge, it may be best taking it out os the car.

Thanks guys, put it on charge over night I have a charger that drops down to below 3 amps (I asume when it sences that the battary is charged it dropes the amps going in) Only doing it as I was told that giving the battary a main charge every once in a while does it the world of good......... does that make sence? Thanks again Jonny
