smokey?????300 Tdi choo choo ??? whats going on??????

Hi Guys....Just noticed my 300 TDI has got quite a bit Smokey lately???
Any ideas???? no loss in power no knocks??? I have had a intercooler fitted lately and the exhaust modulator thing taken off and blanked...its just on the initial pull away or if I accelerate quickly?? any advise would be greatly received ..cheers Ali

What colour smoke? Is it a grey mist, black or white?
Was the intercooler a standard or a larger one, if it's a larger one who fitted it?
If you're using a larger intercooler then the fueling has to be increased at the injector pump because of the extra air that's being pumped into the engine. This can increase the amount of black smoke on pull-away and hard acceleration.
If it's creating too much black smoke for you then you can reduce the amount of fuel by backing off the diaphram or smoke screw in the injector pump. It sounds a lot of work but only takes about 5 minutes to do.

Its black smoke...And it is a larger intercooler  :) And it was Andy at Allisport who fitted it  :shock:  :shock: Why do you ask what colour the smoke is??? :?  is there other things that could be causing this problem???
ther is no white gunk in the oil and like i said no knocks or anything unusual... cheers Ali

Black smoke usually means it's over fueling.

You don't have to adjust the fuel pump if you fit a bigger intercooler, it's just that the extra air allows you to use more fuel if you wish, but by using extra fuel sometimes it's not all burned properly and you get the black, carbon smoke.  Blueish grey smoke is usually attributed to burning engin eoil and white smoke/steam to excess moisture in the exhaust (head gasket ro cold morning etc).

So to scure your smoke try not using full throttle, at least from low revs, push the throttle progressively as the speed increases.  Black smoke=wasted fuel!
