CV joint Disco 300TDI

Oh no...........unless its my age now, but the clicking sound on the front wheel has got quite loud now.
CV joints, How easy are they to change?  Do I need any special tools
Are they expensive?

Easy to change, no special tools and they cost about £30 a side.

The way I did mine was to remove the hub (complete with wheelbeaings & brake disk), remove the stub axle and you can pull the CV joint & halfshaft out.
The CV joint will come off the end of the halfshaft with a tap from a hammer as it's only held there with a spring clip.

Remember to check the wheelbearings while its apart and re-pack the bearings with grease befor you put it all back together.  :wink:

The other way to do it is to release the swivelhousing seal and take the top & bottom swivel pins out. Then the whole hub assembly & halfshaft can be removed from the axle. After which it's a case of removing the circlip on the drive flange and out comes the CV joint from the rear of the assembly.  :wink:

no it wont


in theory it should bit in practice it doesnt due to the bush/bearing that the shaft runs on,

been there,tried it,cursed loads

Darren I don't know about the 300 but apparently the 200 series had 2 or 3 different CV joints with differing numbers of splines on the ends.

It might be worth checking if you're buying mail order.

They did... there are also a couple of outer shaft lengths.  You would be best getting the VIN number and the Axle number (on the axle tube next to the diff)... it's the best way to make sure you get the right one.
