To all 4x4 drivers living or working in the North East.

North East Discovery Search and Rescue (NEDSAR for short) has now gone live. We are a voluntary group based in Newcastle that covers the whole of the tynetees region and yorkshire. If you would like to join us in providing help to the emergency services and to your local communities in times of bad weather or disaster, please go to our website and fill out an application form.

The website address is http://www.nedsar.co.uk

We urgently need more members to help out in times of need. Please folks, you will get a lot of satisfaction, training, fun days out for the entire family and you will be able to use your hobby for something worth while.

Thanks for your time in reading this post and special thanks to muddyweb for the ability for me to post this here. A link has been placed on the NEDSAR web site back to the mudclub.

I'm very interested  but have a couple of questions. I have a standard vehicle apart from a gas conversion. Is that ok or does it need to be modified and my vehicle is covered fully comprehensive but doesn't cover 4x4 events, competitions, racing etc. Is this sufficient or would I need to increase cover?

Bigfatsi,

Your vehicle is just fine the way it is, so long as it is road legal. The only thing I would suggest you do is get some good tyres on it. We have several bog standard discoverys and defenders and they are managing fine on the training course. A good set of AT tyres is always a bonus though.

With regards insurance, you only need tell them that you are volunteering to help a search and Rescue group. Thats alll you need to do.

Go look at the website and print off a membership form, fill it in, send it away. You can always email me or the any of the committee from the website.

Hope to see you soon.
