It's like most forums, some members will sit in the background feeling they may be imposing by coming forward and making a post. For those that haven't posted (and I was guilty of this for a number of weeks) don't be frightened as they're a friendly bunch here  8)

I also encourage those that haven't ventured out to do so as I've met up with new friends locally and ventured out to play twice in four weeks. Whether you like mud or not I'm sure you'll find something that'll be to your taste, if not suggest something as there's always members wanting to get out and about at weekends.

Depends if your doctor prescribes it

I'm sure there's members here that are just amazed at what their vehicles are capable of but don't want to risk any scratches or damage. Given time, the disease sets in and the only drug to cure your symptoms is a dip in the mud. You having a D3 that's dipped quite often must be a chronic off-road sufferer         (I'm sure there's a latin name for the illness)

They're plenty of sites where that's possible, perhaps we need a list of non-scratchy ones?

Yup, got the bug.  :D

To highlight the point though, this wasn't cheap

But there's nothing better than having a play in the mud and getting it looking like this

without worrying about scratches and damage.
Worst damage I've had is splitting one of the mudflaps which isn't surprising as they're not exactly very flexible. LR don't even bother fitting them as standard anymore.
It's just a matter of finding the right places to go

I had an advantage when I joined, I've been a member of another forum (metal detecting) for a good few years and also have one of my own (boat fishing).

I'm on two Landy forums, and this is by far the busiest of the two.  the other one, although small, is also very good with helpful members.

I only bought my Landy this year (s3 109) and it was bought just for getting my boat in and out of the water.  The maiden journey in it was from Peterborough to Southend on Sea and to be honest, for the first ten miles or so, I was shocked at how bad a vehicle it was to drive.

Turning circle of a supertanker
Brakes of a supertanker
You need arms like Garth to steer it
You need legs like Garth for the brakes and clutch
Top speed -    55-60mph
Damnably noisy

After the first ten miles, It just sort of "clicked" with me, I actually started to enjoy the random wandering accross the road and the po-go stick suspension.

The following day, I took the landy into my local mecanananic and he gave it a thourough service, replacing the exhaust and giving the brakes a good talking to.  The reason why the ride was so bouncy .... the previous owner had put additional coils springs on the back, held into place with zip-ties.  The steering was also tightened up, which has reduced the Landys tendancy to suddenly veer off and have a look at a particularly nice tree for no apparent reason.  Also, a set of road tyres were fitted which also helped a great deal.

I have since fitted a 6000lb winch - overpowered for the boat, underpowered for the weight of the Landy!  A CB Radio has been fitted, just seemed the right thing to do, all Landys should have them as standard!  A brownchurch roof rack, but that will probably have to go, I've no use for it.  I bought it because it seemed like a good idea, but in retrospect ........   I had a metal bending mate knock me up a sort of roll bar jobby .... not as a functional roll bar as its only fitted to the tub with spreader plates, but as a higher mounting point for inertia seatbelts.  Its good enough for the MOT!

My next jobby will be a set of off road tyre on another set of rims, as funds allow, and then to try this mud-plugging milarky.  To be honest, I cant wait to start breaking it in the manner God intended it to be broken!

Anyway, excellent forum, it deserves to have many more members.  Absolute quality members and sensible moderating - thats the one thing that can wreck a site, and the reason why I dont bother with the LRO forum.

Sensible point made there and seems to be a major problem on other forums. It appears that some moderators, if they don't agree with your side of a debate will lock or remove the thread and hide behind anonymity. This is what really annoys people as only half the story is heard and wrong opinions are formed.

Well done the moderators on mud-club.  8)
