Hi, couple of questions:

Best place to mount winch, Front or Rear?

Has anyone tryed a rear mount with cable running to front and thewn rear on s Discovery?

Anyone had a bad experince with demountable winches?

Demountables, good idea but too heavy.
Put your winch on the front.

Think thats correct, he has done this on an Ibex, and it will give you some ideas.
Fores Vector (Spelling???) made these commercially, you can easily bend your chassis so you have to know what you are doing, seen it on an SJ very capable, but IMO not worth the effort, easier to buy two winches

If you want one of those trick 2 way winches i think they charge 3k extra on an ibex. Thats because they chassis will get all out of shape. I cnat see the advantage . Surely if you need to winch front or rear then there may be times when you need both..personally i dont.
Front . less problems , easy enough to sort without major expense.

I wouldn't bother... too much hassle for very little benefit.

As winchman says... handling is the biggest issue.

:D also depends on how much you want to BALLANCE your truck try this it works :D this is how some off the big boys do it  winch in cab middle to front straight through pupose made steel tube winch behind that one for rear to pull the rear end same purpose made pipe and either roller fairlead or one of them slim type ones   keeps winch and electrics on board and in dry also keeps the center of gravity in truck and the biggest bennefit is that the wire rope will always coil on in a nice neat layers  :D but is alot of work to do  :lol:
