Are People Colour-Blind?
« on: December 08, 2005, 10:15:25 »
I was on the 'school-run this morning. We left at about 07:55. Progress was reasonable until we got to the bridges over the River Calder & the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal (taken from road-bridge over river).
From then on we hit queuing traffic.

The morning was dull, overcast, drizzly with a slight mixture of road-spray & mist.
Nothing unusual there, but as I sat there listening to a mixture of Wogan & 'Small-Childs' incessant chatterings I was idly watching opposing traffic.

Practically all the queue I was in, I could see about 400yards ahead & 500yards behind were using some level of vehicular illumination.
Yet, in the oncoming traffic, there were in-numerable silver/grey/charcoal coloured cars not showing a scrap of lighting.

Is it me, or there something that makes some drivers feel they are immune to possible 'incidents'
After all if someone had pulled out on one of these un-lit silver cars & used that time honoured phrase; "Sorry, I didn't see you!"
Would the silver car driver be guilty of (that other well-loved phrase)'Contributary Negligence'?
After all, he/she could have displayed lights & thus aiding their visibilty in conditions of low-light.

Yours sincerely, 'Mr Angry'  (blimey remember that phrase from the radio & newspapers?

Oh, and the number of people that use front fog-lights in perfect visibility seems to be on the increase daily.
Thankfully around here, I've heard that the traffic Police are 'having words' over their use (hopefully they'll include LED washer-jets in their chats)

I keep spotting LED washer lights for Discoverys on ebay, don't these fools know that the washers are hidden behind the bonnet?

I was chatting to a police man round our way the other night, and he was saying that our police station are planning to have a crack down soon, on that and blue lights for 'parking lamps'.

Yes, it was one of the Traffic Bobbies that told me too during one of their (far too) frequent visits to us (to interview RTA victims)

It might sound petty, but I was having a running arguement with the father-in-law about the buses in his care (he's a Fleet Safety Engineer) for Arriva in West Yorkshire.
Some of their fleet are showing a white light to the rear (& consequently a red to the front) from the side-marker lights.
He states that it's to allow better judgement on reversing.

I simply say it's 100% illegal, as they are diametrically opposed to what they should be.

There been a campaign on local radio (Saga) about driving with light in bad weather, my self I have fitted a set of 55watt bulls eye running lights on the front and now have to drop a pair of led lights on the back for daylight use, completely seperate from the normal lights.

You definately cant say you cannot see it, especially the fronts, they dont blind but get the eye's attention

I remember following a chap into a car park one evening and parking up beside him. I asked him did he know his rear fog light was on when it wasn't foggy ? He replied it wasn't on. We had a good humoured debate for a minute or two before he realised for the past 12 months he thought he was turning his heated rear window on. He also now knew why it never worked.

Look carefully and some heated rear windscreen button do look vaguely similar to a rear fog light button.  :!:

I also wish I'd got a PA system on my car so when on the motorway I could pull up alongside and shout at those people who quite clearly seem to ignore the BRIGHT ORANGE light on their dashboard that I can quite clearly see from my vehicle. "YOUR FOG LIGHT'S ON MATE"

I was on my way home from work Monday evening at about 7.00 pm in the dark. The car behind me had a blown lamp on the driver's side and had his Front fog/driving lights on to compensate I imagine.

Well the ****** kept putting his main beam on when there were no cars coming towards us and then dipping the moment one did.
I was having a constant barrage of 'floodlights' for nearly 6 miles until I started having a headache and my patience ran out. It was only after driving for a further 2 miles with MY rear fogs on and resting my left foot on the brake peddle to trigger the light switch did he realize he was causing a problem. He kept his only dipped headlight on with no fogs and slowed down until he was 600 - 700 yards behind and then went back to having his fogs or the main beam on again.
As long as he could see then to hell with other road users. :x

If it wasn't for the fact that I was nearly home I would have pulled over to let him pass and drive up his bumper with my main beam on

I ride with lights on even in summer now, bikes are hard enough for some people to see as it is, been knocked off enough times even with HI-VIZ/lights on,they still cant see ya.
In Germany you have to carry a spare set of bulbs by law, so no excuse for driving with defective lights.
On a recent run up the M11 in my truck, a car pulled onto M11 from Stansted, Indicator flashing.......Indicator still flashing in the distance when we got to Cambridge.
4wheels.... 3wheels.... 2wheels....
as long as its got an........ ENGINE
