300 TDi Power Steering Pump & Belt
« on: December 11, 2005, 18:43:56 »
Help - My 1996 300 TDi disco is shredding it's serpentine belt.

Traced it to the power steering pump. Looks as though the shaft has moved out of the pump body by approx. 5mm+ causing the pulley to shred the belt.

Used the technical method of making a temporary repair(the trusty  hammer), the pulley/shaft moved back into it's correct position.

Does anyone know if these pumps are servicable or is it a matter of replacing it with a new one?

Thanks

I've not heard of the PAS pump being serviceable so I would say it's a new one.  :(

They are about £80 + VAT, unless you can get a second hand one from somewhere.
