People on ebay!
« on: December 11, 2005, 23:16:43 »
Just sold some folding defender 90 seats on ebay, jolly good it went through the auction fine and then sold for what they went for.  State quite clearly on the auction that they will be couriered.  So what does the winner do, he asks to pay by cash when he collects!!!  The problem is we had trouble before with an ebayer who decided he didnt want to pay and had to call the police and change accounts and all that.  So now gonna end up with problems from this fella i reckon!

My point is, why cant people ask first, instead of just assuming?

And before anyone says anything about high priced goods, these went for £28.58!  the courier costs are £12.50!!

simply say no... ask him for a cheque or postal order and wait till it clears before sending it.
If he is a numpty report him and relist, thankfully as you didnt get a fortune its not the end of the world.
I currently have a set of decarbon rear shocks listed. no bids. I will pull the auction tomorrow unless they get to 40 ...they are brand new 2inch longer and cost 90 everywhere!

Ive just sold my 1971 Fiat 500 as a complete restoration project. clearly marked that a rear wheel is locked solid and it MUST be trailered. And also that there is no structure to the floor and that if you did sit inside it you would more than likely end up on the driveway

I was hounded with people asking if they could drive it, tow it over 100+ miles etc LOL

Anyway a guy is coming with a recovery truck for it on Tuesday, paying cash on collection also!

:)

Its not so bad if you offer collection as an option, which with a vehicle you really have to do, but i didnt offer it in the listing! lol

You could always stipulate  that collection is not an option - but then you run the risk of being classed with people like this:

Collection always suits me for large items anyway - who wants the hassle of arranging a courier...

TBH I am with Dave on this. If collection isnt an option then I want nothing to do with it and paying £12.50 P&P if you only live a mile away is an awfull lot.

Collection on items which you both share a common interest such as Landy parts is actually quite fun :)

It will end up with a reviewing on each others Landy  :D

Wizard, i had one guy in the States who wanted the cheapest shipping as the item was heavy who emailed me every day for 6 weeks....the shipping time should have been 6-8 weeks which he knew from the outset.
After about 10 emails i scanned my proof of postage and told hi i wouldnt answer any until the 8 weeks was up!

Last month I sold a Webber Carb off a 3ltr V6 Essex.
I said in the auction that it was complete exept for the auto choke which had been replaced with a manual choke kit but this was retained on the vehicle. I had about 3-4 emails from a chap who kept asking about the manual choke kit cos that's all he wanted!  :?

It still didn't sink in that there was NO CHOKE with the carb and the manual choke kit is still in the vehicle that I sold 5 years ago!

Anyway, they are welcome to pick up from me if they want too!!

Bob696 but then when your wife has been threatened by someone with a crowbar you tend not to want people to come round the house.  I sure as hell wouldnt want the hassle.

Surely if something is for sale on ebay then local pickup isn't a problem.

If it is a problem state that on your ebay listing and watch your number of people bidding dive.

If you don't state it then do you really want 100 emails from everyone watching the items asking if they can pick up locally?

Na, not lonely up here. Got the wife, a nice open fire and central heating, we even have electricity, mains water, broadband and most of the A-roads are now two lane (not single track with passing places!!).  :D

More than that, who could complain about being able to park up for lunch in a place like this.................  :D

GGRGRGRGR

Anyway :)  My Ebayer came to collect "his" Fiat 500 this afternoon :)  Sale completed without a hitch.

And as a added bonus he was a lover of old Rangies, so I introduced him to Mud-Club!
