Internal Bulkheads
« on: December 14, 2005, 10:50:27 »
Continuing on from the thread; Which Do I Buy?

At what point in the model run was the internal bulkhead deleted?
I'm sure it was still in situ at the cessation of Tdi production & early Td5's had it??

I know there's still some ironmongery in place, but not a great deal.

I can't be bothered going & sorting out a magazine from 1998 to check the fact, so maybe some one knows?

Can't answer that question but on my first 90 I replaced the bulkhead with one of these http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/Bulkhead_Removal_Bar.html
and used the seat rails http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/MUD_Seat_Rails.html

I'm 6 foot tall and it made it a lot more comfortable for me.

Phil,

Next time you come to the pub meet, can you bring Daisy and let me have a look at your seat rails  [-o<

Alison (SWMBO) is 6ft tall and she fits in the Disco, but it's not the most comforatble thing to drive, these rails might just be the answer

Do you fit in Daisy OK,    Maybe I can use that as an excuse to swap my car for a Defender

I'm taller than Alison, but I've always found Discos fine to drive - there's bags of room.  Is it worth trying a different seat to find something more comfortable?

I think it all depends on why you are so tall.

i.e. what part of you is long....

For Alison she is tall because she has long legs, so they don't fit very well between the back of the seat and the pedals, if you have a long body, your legs under the wheel will be fine, and your head will be closer to the roof.

Sorry BTM, it looks like your thread's been hijacked

Duffer was a hardtop which I fitted in fine but was a lot comfier once the bulkhead was removed.
Bluffer was a truck cab and was uncomfortable as the back of the cab severely restricted how far back the seat could go.
Daisy's a 110 station wagon which has no internal bulkhead, as such the rear seat reclines further than either of my 90's and is more comfortable to drive.

Who needs an excuse to have a Defender :P  :P

Sounds about right, but the 50th was essentially the NAS 90 for our roads

I did some digging in my 'Snug' & found a Defender accessories catalogue (2004) & it states;
