Johnnie Walker
« on: December 15, 2005, 22:35:20 »
One of the pleasures I grab whenever I can is listening to Johnnie Walker on Radio 2 between 17:00 & 19:00.

If I'm on days-off, or earlies, it usually means me cooking, wshing up, drying, cleaning up & putting it all away as it prolongs my listening (& avoids programmes like 'Little Bear' & Fi-Fi & Flowertot's, etc...)

I reckon he's one of the better DJ's on Radio 2, as he's got a certain style (other good ones; Nick Barraclough, Bob Harris, Jeremy Vine, Mike Harding & Mark Radcliffe - who isn't as wild as he was on Radio 1 at 23:00)
Plus he generally has some great guests on, & the repartee with Sally 'Traffic' Boazman is well worth the listen alone

(for example; he had Ed Alleyne-Johnson on a few months ago with his electric violin & that was amazing, it made me dig out my old tapes of his)

So anyway I was thinking as I listened earlier to the 'Cruising With Johnnie Walker' section that runs at !8:00 every night.
Tonights tracks were;
'Suicide Blonde' INXS
''Down In The Tube Station At Midnight' The Jam
'Whiskey In The Jar' Thin Lizzy

Out of the 3, only the last one does anything for me.

But I got to wondering, what would be your playlist for 'Cruising'?? [/i]
They only play 3, but on the submitance form 6 are allowed, in case you choose something that's already on his playlist (no naughty words, or questionable lyrics)

I think I could happily go along with;
'The River' [/i]Bruce Springsteen

'I'm Still In Love With You' Steve Earle & the Del McCoury Band

'The Green Fields Of France' [/i]The Men They Couldn't Hang

'Ring Of Fire' Johnny Cash (I think it's the Mexican trumpets that make this stand out)

'Our Town' Iris Dement

'Cherry Blossoms' Tindersticks (such an unusual musical style & lyrics)
Richard A Thackeray
Defender 110Td5 'Heritage Gone, but not forgotten
Jaguar XKR; X88 JLT, also 'gone, but not forgotten'

Yorkshire Born & Bred, and proud of it.

The three for me today would have to be:

Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley
The Blowers Daughter - Damien Rice

but mine also change daily, yesterday for example it was:

Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus
Outside (Live Version) - Staind (feat. Fred Durst)
One Last Breath - Creed

I quite like Alison Krauss as well, as for her contribution to 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou?' Wow
'Down To The River' still reverberates through my head after all this time

Got a couple of AK & Union-Station CD's somewhere.

Ol '55 - Tom Waits (Live Version)
Wayfaring Stranger - 16 Horsepower
Gasoline - The Catherine Wheel

As i said very weird, if anyone has heard of any of them please let me know cos i have only ever found one other person in this country that has heard of 16 horsepower!
