300Tdi vacum pump leaking oil
« on: December 15, 2005, 22:41:38 »
The vacum pump on my Defender leak oil. A new one is quite expensive
and I'm wondering if it could be repaired? If so could you steer me to
the right direction, where to find some description of the repair and what
and where the parts could be found?

TIA,

Juha

is it just leeking oil from the face as a gasket will cure they are a sealed unit but when they start to rattle and the pump looses the vacum take off drill the rivets out separate the two halves and use some sealant re rivet or bolt togther

A new pump was the solution.

Hi,

I had to buy a new pump, what I heard is that sometimes they can be
repaired, the are not meant to, the cover is riveted in place.
The rivets can be drilled and cover opened.

In my pump one of the valves was apart and one small ball had jammed
between the cover an piston and bent it, and also loosened the rivets.
So the leak I could repair, but the valve was shot so I bought a new
pump.

The local, I'm in Finland, Land Rover rep think that if somebody is
driving a Defender he must be a bit crazy and will pay what ever for
parts, a new part from Land Rover Finland 571€ and from a independent
small shop 230€.

That's my story about the vacuum pump for a 300Tdi.
