oops a bit of a naughty by the anti's
« on: January 01, 2006, 13:51:07 »
Just been reading jans edition of 4x4 magazine and theres a little snippet on page 9 about
www.stopurban4x4s.org.uk
apparently the naughty little anti's websight was recently taken off line due to several breaches of reproduction and guideline copywrite

Obviously the greens are recycling more than there bottles as they seem to be reusing everyone elses material

Unforunatly its back up again now but there seems to be no mention of it in there news section
it seems they are not only selective whith there statistics to show how evil our vechicles are but also selective with the news they report
Rose tinted glasses again I think?

I wonder what nasty git did that?

The site was investigated by the crown copywrite for breach of the guidlines for using its data. Also their ISP investigated claimes of inciting hatred.

Also, it published a cartoon from universal media without permission.

Bulli, you'll probably get the standard reply
think Mr Mackie off South Park " 4x4's 're baaaad, m'kaay, don't drive a 4x4 cos they're baaad, m'kaay"
They have no original ideas, they simply regurgitate unfounded claims taken from other (copyright, ha ha!!) sources, I've given up trying to get this silly woman to accept facts, and sick of reading the same old garbage!!

Just had another browse (as I like to see what new stuff if anything, they have come up with) and found this...

Quote
3. You will breathe cleaner air

Pollution studies have demonstrated that, in slow traffic, the dirtiest air isn't being breathed by the cyclists in the gutter or the people waiting for the bus on the pavement, but by those inside the cars in the middle of the road. If you find this implausible, check where your car's air intake is, and compare it with the exhaust pipe of the 4x4 in front of you.

What relevance does a car's air intake have to do with an exhaust?
The air intake for the car is for the engine, not the bloody passengers.

Firstly, let's say this, Greenpiece themselves drive a Landie on autogas, so we can't be that far out of step can we?  (thyis is by their own admission BTW)

Secondly, 1/4 of all CO2 emmision in the  uk are from road transport? I don't think so actually, if it's a fraction of 1% worldwide.  Maybe they stole that snippet from the septics too?

To truly realise a vehicle's environmental footprint, you should look at the whole vehicle life, including the construction and dismantling/recycling.  As our landies are so well built that they last more than twice the life of a mere Eurobox, added to the fact that a massive proportion of the emissions/polution created by a car occur during it's construction (creating the required energy, manufacture, steel/plastics production, incineration etc), then for the whole vehicle life, the emissions don't look anywhere near as bad as say a people carrier that gets swapped every 3 years and scrapped in about 8 years.

It's perception and I think a certain amount of jealousy.

I'm not aware that they have brandished us as 'murdering hooligans' lately though, or am I just growing a thick skin?

If your writing to the alliance aganist urban 4x4 expect there normal answer

no answer at all

From my own expiriance and from what other people have said here on MC and other forums if you write them an email about how they base the biast made up dross (you cant call them facts) or if you make some honest constuctive fact based points to them they seem to suddenly lose all ability to respond

would be intresting to go to one of there events and confront them directly and see if they can talk face to face.
But then that in there wording would be 4x4 drivers being confruntational disruptive blah blah blah ....

at the end of the day we know who's right

from the anti website (with my observations) which Iv emailed to them:

"I do have to say that the drivers of these things in cities must be clinically insane."
Jeremy Clarkson - presenter, Top Gear

Commenting on the size and the fact that they are difficult to park

"When you see someone trying to manoeuvre it round the school gates, you have to think, you are a complete idiot."
Ken Livingstone - Mayor of London

What? > more so than the mum with a volvo estate that is 10 inches longer ?

"4x4s are among the most environmentally harmful vehicles on the market, emitting up to four times more CO2 than normal cars and only doing approximately 12 mpg in city traffic."
Lynne Featherstone – when Liberal Democrat London assembly spokesman on transport, and chairman of the London Assembly Transport Committee (now an MP)

many cars have the same sort of fuel consumption, do you wish to ban those as well ?

"Four-by-four vehicles are simply not designed for driving in urban areas and to do so is irresponsible."
Professor David Begg - Chairman of the Commission for Integrated Transport

Really? > Audi Allroad, Volvo XCD90, Many MPV's, Fiat Panda the list goes on

"If the majority of your journeys are in an urban or suburban environment you don't need a 4x4 vehicle."
Paul Everitt – Spokesperson, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders

No but then people dont need PC's, Mobiles, Sky TV, etc etc etc
Recommended wading depth 500 inches, no wait, im sure that was milimetres. And let me get this right. The breakover angle is 80 degrees....??

Ahh, f**k it, Il give it a go anyway

 Ah, but, I don't suppose the whiter-than-white Miss Berry would even admit to owning or using anything which is (in her opinion) destructive to the environment; she probably spends her spare time (when not wasting trees on 'spoof' parking tickets and producing radiation at her PC) sitting in a Yurt weaving her own yogurt, and planning the next phase in her 'World domination through irritation' silly cow!!!

I think that the people who drive big Mercedes and BMW's that rev the cars high (manuals) or use the kickdown (auto's) most certainly produce more emissions.  Then there are those that drive stupidly fast doing who also produce worryingly amounts of emissions AND who if they cause a crash will almost certainly kill someone.  These are the people who need to be targetted...

Interesting about air intakes and exhausts.  The 90's exhaust exits from the lefthand side behind the rear wheel.  Our Scenic exhaust exits straight out the back as do most vehicles.  Good job the 90 air intake is in the left hand wing. :D

Next time you are behind a car, have a look at where the exhaust pipe faces, any car, have a look at your own.

It points straight onto the pavement------- never understood that, we drive on the left and shove our gasses straight onto the path.

What is needed is a row of cars parked up along side each other { all 4x4 derived,}
Fiat panda
Vitara
Toyota previa
Subaru, etc etc, and see if any of these anti's can tell you which is a 4x4.

If they get the answer wrong, sh##t them, all of them.

Top 10 reasons not to drive an urban 4x4
1. You're not a farmer
Or a tree surgeon, country vet, wind turbine repairer, dry stone wall engineer or mountain rescue specialist. Unless you are (or in a handful of other occupations) there's really no need for you to get a big 4x4, particularly if you live in an urban area.

So I asked them a few questions,

1. So how they going to tell what jobs people do, without victimising the approved 4x4 owners?

2. Should your job limit you to what you can drive?

3. What about people that live outside of towns and cities but need to access them occasionally? Obviously owning and using two or more cars would be worse than just one car for all your needs.

4. Where is your undisputable, unbiased scientific proof, for the British environment, that show your claims to be true?
