Safety Devices Roof Rack
« on: January 08, 2006, 19:43:38 »
Ive got a Safety Devices roof rack on the Disco (the Highlander low level one that follows the roof shape) & would be interested to hear from anyone else that has one as to what they did (if anything) in respect of some sort of decking on top.

I was offered Buffalo Board in 2 pieces but did not want to do this as I thought it would create too much drag at higher speeds.

I want to mount the shovel, pick, hi lift etc on it and am open to suggestions as to what to use & how people have fixed the deck before I try and come up with something.

Welding galvanised rebar mesh 2" spacing. Cheap. light, can walk on it and attach straps to it and the lights still comes through the sunroof. Single sheet covered whole deck. Cable ties secured it

Ive got a single piece of chequerplate 3mm ali . I cut it out so it slides past the front uprights bu about half an inch. Secured with self tappers. With a little crafty manipulation it follows the contours of the roof rack precisely.

You want to try mine, its got too much suspension travel!!! I simply drilled and self tapped it in place. You need a few screws though!!
