Disco shocks
« on: January 13, 2006, 17:20:40 »
The Disco is needing a 60k service, and just lately Ive noticed that it's 'bouncing' a tad more than normal after traversing a speed bump, or pothole - assume that the shocks are past their best ?. Had a quick look, no sign of leaks, but is it worth getting them done whilst it's being serviced (not at a main dealer I might add !)

Do I go for OME, Procomps, Bilstein or stick with LR bits ? - I don't want to lift it, or go extreme, just need something to flatten out the lumpy bits

If your happy with the way it used to ride just stick with L/R bits.

I had standard shocks replaced with De-carbons (gas) and the rides a little bit rougher now. Still on standard springs.
Cheers.

the front shock bottom bushes are probably knacked so id consider changing them first & its a press out job to remove them

The OME shocks and springs made my 90/hybrid a totally different truck, much better on road and off road.

When my disco shocks and springs go, I'll be investing in OME without a doubt
Ashley (but everyone knows me as Ash...)

Roxanne the 88" 300tdi auto Hybrid Trayback thats broken more than its fixed
Rosie the 300 Tdi auto disco that picks the hybrid up when broken...
Daisey the trailer that sits behind Rosie and lies under Roxanne.
The sexy threesome!!!!!!

Mikee, you say it's a press out thing to change the bottom bushes - I assume that they can be butchered out (air-saw and some heat   ), and then fit 2-piece bushes as replacements (Polybushes for example) ?

Jim

butcher out-yes,2 piece bushes-no

to put the new ones back in i found the best way is to support in a vice & chap in with a 27mm socket, its easier than balancing in a press,

P.s it normally takes 10tons to even get the bushes to budge normally

Would new shocks come with bushes already fitted, or are they extra ?

And without a press ? - a 27mm socket and a big hammer ?
