When we changed my plugs it was easy enough, just wire in in the same way the old ones come out, they only need about 10secs of pushing the button before they work, very good indeed.
Good Luck

I had huge efforts trying to start mine a while back.  I replaced the starter motor with one off a freelander diesel, fits exactly, not sure if it goes fast enough, but it started the vehicle ok.  How about a heavier duty battery and of course make sure there are no short circuits anywhere to drain the battery out.

so its been sat for a while?
does it make a clonk when you turn the key?

i think your right with the starter motor being iffy, or possibly its the solenoid ontop of the starter thats seizing

Do the lights etc work? If not check if there is a current between the battery terminals with a multimeter.  If nothing try charging again, if still nothing try another battery.  If there is a current make sure all the connections in the wire are clean, check there is a current getting to the starter motor, maybe try connecting directly from the battery to the starter motor to see if that works (make sure you're out of gear of course!).  If there is charge in the battery and its getting to the starter, and its a case of the starter is just not doing anything then take the motor off, clean it, test it, if still nothing then replace.
