Just bought a new toy- now with pictures in gallery
« on: January 13, 2006, 20:03:42 »
Well as the 90 has now sold and I've just bought a 200tdi L reg disco today
3 door chasis is in top condition needs a little cosmetic work (big patch of laquer peeled off roof) nice and tidy inside checked all the normal rust spots (sill's boot floor wings) and all good there
£1700

Mind you have been looking around today and there are some real dogs out there.
Saw one V8 that was priety much held together buy its paint for £1000  :|
had a look at another TDi and chasis was totaly rotten that they where asking £1500 for  [-(
Pointed out this to the dealer that the vechicle was priety much useless and all they could say is well no doubt some one will buy it as people will spend a fortune on these old land rovers

disco's maybe cheep at the moment but its deffinatly buyer beware

nice to hear you found a new toy

Your so right about the dogs we looked at, the V8 held together by paint was in fact better than the dog for £1500 whose chassis was full of holes.

When pointed out about a month ago dealer thought it would sell, surprise, surprise it was still there today.
On the 1st vist an immaculate TDI same reg was only £200 more and it's long gone, maybe the buyers arn't that stupid
Makes we wonder how the pricing structure works thou having looked also at dogs in just as bad condition but younger for several grand more.

It just beggars belief.

Sorry couldn't be with you to check the one you bought, look forward to seeing it soon.

Bought an L plate early 300Tdi ES 5 speed FSH but 147000 miles for £2300 7 weeks ago. No rust at all - even boot floor is perfect. SRS light on but not an MoT problem and I am not over bothered about this as I know a man with Testbook or whatever it is called. Drives as if half the mileage and I am delighted with it.
The strange thing is the number of rotten/clocked/LHD to RHD conversation etc etc Discoverys out there. I looked at too many for sanity at exotic prices but it is a buyers market. In the end I bought on condition not age and to some extent the price was not relevant.
It replaces temporarily my 1988 G Wagen of a build quality LR can only dream about!!
Cheers,
JB

I bought a 1994 disco gs 170k on the clock 300tdi, all the toys for gs level like leather seats, air con (doesnt work but Im not bothered) cd radio etc etc. 2 grand was on parts and labour by last owner and it has seat covers worth £70 on front seats, light guards all round and I got it for £2300. Admitedly the alternator pulley did come loose after 200 miles and cost a bragain £500 to replace in comparison to anywhere else would have charged. It drives like a dream now (touch wood). It is a pitty that I have limited mileage on it. Wont be doing that next year! It does force me to drive my other car though!

trouble is you never ever seem to find all the troublesome bits until about a week after. i thought the pickup was in bloody good condition for its age... main reason i got it.

coume MOT time, after a good crawl round and a prod or seventy with the old screwdriver of doom, the fibreglass is out. the worst offenders were the bed floor (under a plastic load liner = rust heaven)

got through fine tho. now just the cosmetic bits (passenger door is burgered, few brown bubbles here n there)

It has been said that, given enough time, a million monkeys bashing at a million typewriters would eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to the Saxo forums, we now know this to be wrong

couple of little things I've notice now
slight leak in brake line
couple of VERY minor rust patches inside passenger wing(hammerite on standby once cleaned up)
But have had another opinion from disco geordie and he thinks its all in good order apart from afore mentioned
