FRONT SCREEN FOR DISCO
« on: January 14, 2006, 00:14:55 »
i phoned auto glass for a quote for a new screen today, after taking a few details down she asked me what insurer we were with, i told her i didn't know as simon sorted all that out, she said yes it is in a males name i told her simons name and she said 'yes you are fully comp and have a 60 pound exces on the policy'  oh have i i said  'you would be better doing it on your insurance as it will not affect your no claims or your premium'  which way do you want to go

i told her i would have to talk to my hubby.

i was gob smacked that she could find all this out with just the reg plate

simon checked the policy and she was 100% right,

got to say though she was very helpful

Can find a lot now with the number plate.  insurance, mot, tax all computerised to help keep everyone legal, disadvantage is that it because available to almost everyone.

Anyone can goto the dvla site and check __your__ vehicle is MOTd and TAXd
Wont be long before we could tell how many owners it has, where it lives and with the help of google earth, what you bought at tesco on the way home last night

I like this site

http://www.rac.co.uk/web/carbuying/vehicle_data_search/

When the MCN took pictures of a new triumph bike, I told everyone on a forum that the new triumph would be a 675cc bike.

People still wonder how I found this out, but all i did was put the reg in the above site

its the same data that HPI and Experian use.

quite handy and even works with personalised plates which can throw people.

if they have discussed the policy and told you its full comp then maybe possible breatch of data protection.
They are advising specifics of something thats in your partners name - any one could of been calling and claiming to be you .

It sounds quite worrying

Anyone know how to focus Google Earth when zoomed right in? Apparently it shows a yellow 260Z on our drive (sold about 3 years ago!)

Have a 1937 Ariel framed Triumph motorcycle on its original plate - that screwed the site up - seems it was made when god was a lad

Must admit I get a bit concerned about what data can be given out to anyone these days - what with the rise in identity theft etc - Gotta be infringment of civil rights or something.
