Well guys and girls im due to be married in APR 07 so i am writting this to see how u lot got married etc etc as we have already hit are first snag we were going to book a place which was an officers mess with lovely grounds etc etc but them being officers and me merely being a grunt thay simply cant have that can they :roll:  :roll:    so we have to find somewhere else we want to get married and have the reception there as we are not church goers we would rather have it at the same place so comeon peeps how did u have ur wedding    :D

i gat married 2 years ago next week and it cost over £2,000 and that was a fortune

Goty married a the local register office ,never told a sole apart from the two witness, quick meal out of town, overnight stay at the airport hotel, phoned the family the good news that evening ................... :x  mother not very happy at all.............[!Expletive Deleted!] off for 2 weeks holiday to let the dust settle ....came back .mother still frosty,but hey we did what we wanted ,after all its your day,no tootthless old aunties to kiss and scroungers coming out the woodwork..........8 years on still married.

We both enjoyed it (which is the main thing) and it did'nt take to much organising or money.

Got married in old farm buildings, with lunch in the pigsty (I think that's what sold the venue to me)  followed by dancing in the barn.

As it was all in one place there was no need to waste money on cars and we didn't lose any guests between wedding and reception :D

we got married nearly 17 years ago on november 4th in our local church lovely sunny day and our wedding cars were 2 yellow cabralot vw beetles!   :twisted:  :twisted:
people said we were silly for having the bugs but they were not getting married that day! :o  :o

about a year of plannig and plenty of family arguments, 1 aunt got told to stay away! :lol:

Church wedding...

Wedding cars were :  P38A, Discovery 1 and we left the church in the back of an open-topped Series 3 :-)

Back to Mrs Muddy's parents farm to a marquee in a field for a proper reception with real food  (none of this finger food nonsense) all from local suppliers.

All looked very impressive and expensive, but if you do it right it doesn't need to be...  all seems like a long time ago now !

I got married in a registry office on a Saturday, with just me and the wife and 2 witnesses. We had a meal with them in a restaurant as a thank you.

On the Sunday of the following week we had our wedding blessed at a church and we had a buffet for our close family members. They all had a surprise since the first they knew about it was at the church (we just told them all to be there!).

I am not the type to have a big 'do'.

Used to serve in Bulford, there are plenty of potential venues around Salisbury if you want that area.  It would depend on how many guests you plan on!

cor blimey all this talk of weddings and theres me been helping in the planning of one for a veryclose friend.

well me and my ex wife got married in a church had the wedding reception in the local school hall were ex-mother - in - law worked. went on honymoon to mexico cost £3000 and divorced 3 years later.

well any way all i can say is its YOUR DAY and you must do what you feel is right forget what other people say or think are you marring them? no
 so you can't please everybody so do it right please yourselves 1st.

as to wether i would ever get married again no been there done it got the t-shirt

all i can say good luck and post the pics in a years time and ask thrasher nicely and might chauffer you in owl.

Married in October 1998, after almost 13years together.
It was a Friday, so everything was cheaper (bet I get comments about that!!, tight-fisted Yorkshireman)

Mother-in-law & wifes aunty did flowers in Church. One of our ENT Nurses made us a cake.
Someone who worked in Joannes office made the bridesmaids dresses

Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit as the car (I wanted a Bentley, but we couldn't find one locally)
It picked best-man & me up, dropped us off & went for Joanne

Someone I knew from work, was actually getting married in the Church next day, so they came to the service & our wedding gift to them was all the flowers.
There is a 'Signing Of The Register' image on my 'WebShots', but the site is down for up-gradign at present (poor image, needs re-placing & better framing)
Our reception was at Bagden hall, a wonderful location.

Sadly the reception was too busy for my liking with about 60 for the 'day-do' & about 100 at the 'night-do'
Usual DJ stuff for the guests (certainly not my thing) & a professional firework display as well

Next day, we got a chauffeur driven Mercedes to Manchester Airport (would've preferred a Jag :roll: )
Flew to Heathrow & caught a flight to New York (got an upgrade as well :D  :D, my first time on a plane for 20years - bar Helicopters
Then 2weeks touring parts of the east coast (New York, Boston. Quebec, Montreal, Ottowa, Toronto, Niagara, Washington DC, Philadephia)

Bottom line;  :shock:  :shock:  :shock:  :shock:  :shock:
Dare I say............................... almost £9,000

Got married twice in one day   Once at Gretna Green registery office and then at the Blacksmith's shop (which doubles up as a stagecoach museum). Must go back one day and see if it's changed as it looks very commercial now the restrictions have been dropped.

My girlfriend (I think she classifies as a SWMBO), wants a big wedding in a nice country Church in the New Forest.  Then onto a nice place (statey house type place) for the reception, then off to the Maldives for the Honeymoon (I quite fancy that one too..).  I think her dress will end up costing more than most people spend on the day itself if she gets her way (which is probably will!).  But anyway, still got to propose yet and that won't happen for at least a year.

It was a former church, no longer consecrated(sp?) as we're not Christian (we have our beliefs and follow the old religion), so we had a candle and flame lit civil wedding in the most beautiful stone building you can imagine.

Had cake and bubbley there, went to pub at end of road for a drink, then all went home.

SHMBO and I had a nice chinese takeaway for our wedding dinner :D


Only 17 guests in total!!!

We got married in a registry office the day before our real wedding (you couldn't get married just anywhere back then). The main event took place in a 13th century Templar barn - and we all dressed for the period. Yep, I was in full armour :-)

Awesome day, topped off by having "No Right Turn" playing live at the end of the night (and Jim Fox dong his impression of a wandering minstrel!!)

In keeping with what Tim said - we sourced the venison ourselves, and the ale as well!

Been married over 5 years, paid for it (nearly)all ourselves. Wedding in a 13th century church on 17th December. The church was decorated for Christmas so we didnt need to do anything! Look great ..we got married between 2 carole services!
We had the reception 20 miles away at the Millstone in Hathersage. We had the entire restaurant with about 90 guests....best part Christmas dinner for our wedding meal! 7 quid a head...not the usual 40! And the landlord allowed us to bring our own wine so saved a packet there...cost less than 3 grand all in. Had every room at the hotel thrown in for free.
Best bit was seeing everyone in their christmas hats!
