Anyone know if the later upright type is a direct replacement for the early one? I'm fed up with having to reach down for the damn thing

should be a direct swap, have got a series 3 seat box with the series 1 or 2 short and nearly straight handbrake.
The nice thing is the extra space and the handbreak makes quite a nice footrest on a long journey.
