Lift the Disco?

After doing a search on suspension lifts, I have a query .... There are various posts stating that lifted suspension has sagged after a short time.  

I was looking at a kit from mm4x4.co.uk which comes out at around £420 with the chancellors bit added.  Has anyone got experience ofthis kit .... is it likely to sag?  I don't really want to pay twice for the lift, so if there is a concensus that this kit isn't as good as it may first seem and that there is another kit which is more reliable, then I would consider going that way.  I'm looking at either 2 or 3 inches of lift.  

I have access to a large lump of land (about the size of 6 footy pitches) that resembles the moon with grass on ..... lumpy as hell!  The farmer has given me permission to chew it up to my hearts content so I reckon the higher the better!  Would you advise against this and err on the side of keeping it closer to standard?

:D put the scorpion kit on never had any problems when i did had a first class response within 24hrs replacement part arrived never had any sagging  just make sure you put the springs on the correct way as they are progresive springs which fit with the tight coils top side any advice give richard/kevin a ring very helpfull and informative theres many happy mud clubbers including myself have got /or modifying there trucks using the scorpion equipment..regards colin

Im was looking at the same kit.
Think ill prob go for there 3" springs and pro comp shocks then go for Scorpions evo kit :)

i had the mm4x4 kit on my disco and indeed it did sag once i fitted the jackable sills and hd bumpers, think long and hard at how much lift you need and how many bolt on goodies your gonna end up with. all that weight was too much for the springs. gords now has them on his disco but had to put spacers on the back to compensate for the sounthdown tank guard.

I have the Scorpion 2" lift on my 300 Tdi Disco.
Since it went on i've fitted rock sliders, winch bumper, steering guard, tank guard with detachable tow bar and it has'nt sagged a bit.
They were on my old V8 Disco for 18 months and now have been on my Tdi for 6 months.
I'd go for a set of them again.

Get Old Man Emu springs, mine have not saged even after 18 months.

when you ask for your set you need to tell them what you have on your motor.  When I ordered mine I said I have X, Y, Z and I intened to fit A, B, C.

I asked if I didn;t have ABC would it cause a problem and they said no.

Progressive springs don't have a correct way up despite what people say - the only difference is the wight of the spring on the coil itself - fit them which ever way up is easiest!

When I fitted my winch and winch bumper after the spring and shock change, the level didn't change at all and the firmness difference was unnoticeable as it were.

Which brings me nicely round to
For sale.... 4 x 2" lift springs and procomp ES9000 shocks suited for a disco, with bolt on extras :-)

True.  But if you fit them with the open coils to the bottom you end up with less gravel and [!Expletive Deleted!] caught inside them.

I've had extended springs on Piglet since 2000. I changed the rears from 25% uprated to 50% when I had the cage done. Never had a problem. Get your rating right and you'll not have a problem - the secret is to talk to the supplier - there is a big difference between lifting a standard 200 series Discovery and a fully loaded, armour plated 300!!!!

Scorpion springs have a lifetime warranty against breakage. A mate broke one last week, we took it back at the weekend and the changed it with no fuss.I would definatley use them again...

I thought you had sold those Matt?


I was quoted for a 1" lift the other day. Pro comp springs and bearmach shocks (right way round I think) and that was £250. No ideaif that is good or not. It gives me a rough area to know how much to save up though. That quote was from Safari engineering BTW if your wondering Matt!

standard question when asking for a quote for anything to do with cars

"does that include everything?"
or
"does that include VAT, postage, other vague additions etc"?

if you don't it will be
£250 + postage fee + stocking fee + commission + fast delivery charge + non return of old unit surcharge + VAT

and... no that boat sailed yesterday.  Have had loads of enquiries about them too!

  and it gives you time to save up for what you really want i have to admit if i bought  again id buy the scorpion  kit or old man emu.  joe

I have a MM4x4 2" lift kit on my 300tdi.  The kit cosisted of 4 x Pro-comp shocks and 4 x Bearmach blue springs.  I fitted it about 18 months ago and paid about £270.

Be aware that there are two methods used to gain the lift: 1 is to use 2" longer springs the other is to use standard length springs with a higher poundage which dont compress so much.  The bearmach blue springs fall into the second category.  The down side to this method is the fact that the shocks allow more movement than the springs can cope with.  My rear springs were regularly dislocating on Stanage edge and Chapelgate in Derbyshire last year.  This is a real pain in the *rse.  It means you either have to fit dislocation cones or (as I have done) jubilee clip the top of the springs in place (which limits your articulation).

My disco also has had a list to the left for the last 8 months.  I intend to replace my springs later this year.  Probably with scorpion racing.  I intend to add a winch to the front so I want to be able to talk to someone about the type of ride I want, the kit I'm carrying and the above problems and get good advice.

If I were you Sheddy I would ask plenty of questions and not necessarily go for the cheap option.  I did and after 18 months I will end up paying out again.

At the same time I shall also extend my brake pipes which are stretched to their limit when fitting the new spings.

Scorpion, good advice and stock on the shelf...a wise man said to me "Buy cheap, buy twice!" and its true. If you go for a cheaper option like the bearmach you get a cheap product, i had these and they are ok but dont give the same lift front and rear?!? you end up with a dragster especially if you fit a winch/winch bumper.
