Legality Question.

I have recently come across a Series 1 rolling chassis, see pictures.

This Series 1 has been left on a disused allotment, the land that the allotment is on is also a mystery as to who owns it. The local council have no claims, and the water board and the railways company have no knowledge of the land.  I have been asking about in the area and I've been told that the last user of the allotment was over 5 years ago. He was the son-in-law of the owner of the Series 1, who had the allotment for donkeys years, and who got the Series 1 about 20 years ago as a project. Never got around to doing it. No one knows who the owner is or where he is. The only one to use the land now are 2-3 drug addicts who seem to be living in a shed. They have been there for over a year...or so 1 of then says.
Is there a way of saving this, the chassis is in a remarkable condition concidering where it is.
It shows up on CALVIN as a 1957 SWB 88 Series 1

What I'd like to know is this.

Can I drag this onto a trailer and take it away?  if not how can I go about it?













I would be greatful for your thoughts on this....is it worth it.
There's no body work about at all. It would be a shame to see it rot away.

look for a chassie no and apply for the log book and then see if you can get an address from the log book or just drag it away and take a chance i dont think anyone will mis it do you

Hi Tom,
Get the chassis number and then contact the DVLA, i am sure they will be able to help you.I think if a vehicle has been "abandoned" and nobody claims it, it is supposed to be disposed of, so in a way you might well be doing the council a favour by taking it away...

I reckon no one would miss it, and I think that in the eyes of the law, you can only steal something if you can be proved to be 'permanently depriving' its rightful owner.....

So I reckon if it can be seen you hav e tried ot fi nd out who it is, and cant, then as long as you document it well, you can always go to court with your head held high......

was a thing about this on one of the series boards a few years ago. The main points is who's land is it on, cuss if left on theirs it's not a hard job to contact DVLA get last owner write to them, if no reply in certain time you get rights of the vehicle (normally people charge for storage to make sure the person isn't intreasted in claiming   )
 if not your land you will have to pay for last owners details and follow the same lines contact and give them a reasonable time to answer! but then you need the land owner permision to take

would be interesting to see how this topic pans out. good luck. i bet you will make a mint on ebay selling that chassis. It could end up going to another persons allotment and rusting away then!!!

always thought that if you placed a notice on it for 21 days and no one lays claim then you can LEGALLY move it to a safe place , and contact dvla for log book..dvla send out form and if no reply in 2 weeks (i think) you legally stake claim!
.seems tea leafs were making the most of this, by breaking in and nicking keys when ppl were on holiday - and applying for log book ,

It as been moved to a site where it will be kept nice and warm, brushed and fed daily, watered and well looked after......

A notice had been placed on the gates of said allotment
I think the intention is to contact D.V.L.A. for last registered owner and take it from there.

The allotment is now the home of 2 drug addicts who live in a shed, the place is rat infested and used as a toilet. It is a danger to the public, there are used syringes with needles in all over the place. The place is littered with old bags of rubbish, rotting food stuff, old cloths and bits of vehicles in such a bad state that it is imposible to make out what they once were.

If it gets a wash and restored I might park my cars there  sometime and see if someone gives them the same treatment!
