i called a local engineering firm today for a quote to recondition my 2 V8 3.9 heads, the complete works and wrapped ready for collection and fit, i was quoted £170 all in, is that a good deal? around northamptonshire?
1995 Discovery 3.9 auto, broken :( ...for now.

I'd rather push my Land Rover than drive a jeep.

Whats the details of the work thay will do to the heads???

well i've asked him what he does and a lot of what he told me went right over my head but this is some of what he told me.....

3 stange cleaning,
60dec float on the exh/inlet
1.3mm exh valve seat, plus radius?
1mm inlet valve seat, plus radius
vac tested twice, once at the beginning and once at the end,
diamond skimmed heads,
remanufacture valves,
ect, ect, ect,

he's in Lichborough just outside of Milton Keynes,
give him a tingcle on 01327 830444 Knights engine munufacture
i'll put details in the garage section.

depends on why you want them doing. For head work that seems reasonable , how good is he? Do you know anyone else that has had work done there? Whats wrong with them now?
Normally if they have done very high mileage a skim to ensure they are flat and the valve seats replacing is all thats needed. No point going to the enth degree if you arent building a high spec motor...the gains for head work are little until the rest of the engine has been worked on.All you really want to know is that they dont leak around the gasket and that the valves seal properly.
