There should be two nuts with a tab washer between. When adjusting, be aware that it is the OUTER nut that defines the adjustment. There is always some clearance in the threads, so if you adjust the inner nut, when you tighten the outer nut it will push the inner further against the bearing and overload it. I made a thin spanner so that I could adjust the inner nut, nip up the outer to the inner (with tab washer between) and then back off the inner nut against the outer until tight. If you try to adjust with the nuts tight together, you will break the inside tab off the washer and render it useless.
It's not as complex as I've probably made it sound. Once you have all the (clean) parts in front of you, all will become clear.
