Rear bumper
« on: February 11, 2006, 18:27:53 »
Has anyone taken the rear bumper of their Disco. I,ve just had a look at my rear body crossmember and its goosed , and the rear door stay is pulling the rear panel off as the door opens. I know there is so serious welding to be done.I cant find my Haynes manual and crawling around underneath nothing jumps out its too grubby under there.

If you cant fix it with Duct tape you havent used enough duct tape.

Yep no probs, look under on each side, bolts are there, a good soaking in wd40 may well be advisable, a bit awkward but can be done.

some pics of mine with the old tin worm problem, dont forget to check the body to chassis mountings, this could be haf the problem with the back door, had to do one on mine, jack the body upto level the door, and plate it up, the rest is just fabrication although you can buy the whole rear cross member nowadays, have fun

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

Well I crawled underneath and tried to undo the bumper bolts, after an overnight soak in WD 40 .The offside came away slowly but steadily .The nearside no chance.I cant get a socket in there A steep cranked spanner will go on but cant get a clean turn on it.The head is rounding off.I hate that car!!.I,ve left it soaking again. Will try again soon.I,ve got a nasty feeling I,m going to have to cut the bumper off and replace. On another downside I think the tank is going to have to come off the rot is that bad I need to get right underneath.
