Thinking about removing the stickers that come on early discos, has anyone done it? will it damage the paint, leave its glue and will the white paint undernieth be a different colour?

The glue is a pain to remove but does come off
The white paint will be like new inderneth so give it a Really deep cut polish.
If you know a bodyshop or a valeter, get it mopped (machine polish).
It'll come out nice after.

Strip the stickers with a heat gun , similar used for stripping wood,then use Autoglym tar remover, this will get rid of the glue, wash and a nice deep polish (machine) and it will be like new.
Well thats my normal routine anyway.

If there's rust bubbles under the stickers/vinyl theres not much you can do,only be careful.

Heat gun is good, a hot pressure washer is better if you have access to one.

i pulled the Defender stripes off mine when i got it and it looked stupid until it was polished, ya can't tell where they where now.

if it is anything like mine then it wont damage the paint and it will look brand new and shiny under the stickers

I'll back you up there Jim, I don't remember it with stripes and I haven't noticed and marks at all

The way they do it in the body shops is to heat the stickers bit by bit with a hairdried, just enough to soften the glue, scrape of the sticker with something like a filler spreader, then the glue can be taken of with good old petrol.

Ive removed small stickers from cars with a kettle of water before now.  Worked perfectly with no paint damage.  Tar and glue remover is the official stuff, petrol will probably get the glue off tho.  

Oh and, dont blame me if boiling water does damage, it never has done when I did it! :D

The trick is to find the right balance of heat....  just enough to soften the graphics, and it will come away from the vehicle..   too hot and the glue will stay behind as you peel off the substrate... leaving you with a horrible sticky mess on the vehicle.

Patience is the order of the day ;-)

or, in piglets case, you leave the glue on the paintwork, then when the cat lays on it you end up with a furry piggy :D

Surely your missus's hairdryer would be better, a 'heat gun' would bubble the paint wouldn't it?? (apologies now if I'm being a muppet!) :oops:

heat gun on low setting, hair dryer does the job as well, just takes a bit longer to get hot enough
