Why do they bother?
« on: February 16, 2006, 21:32:27 »
Its moan time!

I always thought that the idea of having a commercial web site was to promote your business.  That being the case, why do so many companies show the products and not the prices?  I've been scouring the interweb looking for prices of wheel spacers.  I've had the lift completed today and the new wheels put on ... but the stance lacks that certain Je ne c'est quoi, I reckon wheel spacers and arch flares are in order.  The only place I can find these products with prices attached is E-bay!!

what a waste of time.

cos its easier to get you to phone for prices then theyve got you.
whereas if the price is online they'll never get the opportunity to "get you"

and

prices change quite often and the site will be out of date too quickly

OR

they cant be bothered with the website updates so keep it static and leave it there.

Totally agree Sheddy
Generally, when you're looking for something on the web , you know what you want & the most important thing is the price!!
Personally I don't bother contacting companies that don't show their prices cos I think if they were that good then they'd put them up!!

nah m8, theres also the Devon 4x4 site that has a price allergy and a few others besides.

The other sites that annoy me are the one that read like a parts list with no pictures (famousfour).

A couple of the best site imho are mm4x4 and rebel 4x4.  They are informative, have pictures and prices.  Considering that it is more convenient for me to do my "shopping" out of hours, thier sites are just the sort of thing I need.  Unfortunatly, they dont sell what I need!

im no wanting to be patronising but normally i go straight to the forum on d4x4,for a change went in through the main page,on the main page there is a products list with some items & prices,
go to products & at the top in  yella it says
"A selection of products is now available to buy online ! Please click to Visit Our Online Store"

no rocket science,

scrapiron are the worst but most of the big companies that ive delt with are catching up

I can answer that one for you.

The site is in transition at the moment as more of the products are put into the online store.   It would be daft to just take all the old ones offlline until the new part of the site is complete, so there is a bit of overlap.

It's also a case of trying to keep things up to date, as mentioned prices and product availability changes and we are in the process of getting it all up to date and making it easier to manage.

Actually talking to customers does have its advantages too...   not just so "we've got you", but also so we can help and advise where it is appropriate.   All too often we talk to customers who have read some 'expert' advice somewhere and are all set and ready to make a purchase, not knowing that what they have been advised is horribly dangerous or totally inappropriate for their vehicle.

Rebel 4x4 do 30mm spacers - about £160 a set with all nuts etc to bolt straight on - they have them on their site and they have prices.

They look good when fitted and dont screw up the steering lock. They will also help the tyres throw loads of mud up the sides of the vehicle to give that 'used' look - It'll be chequer plating then to protect the sides I'll wager

Not pricing things is a pet hate of mine. I try to stick by my policy of refusing to even enquire about the price of something if it is not marked. The whole point to trading is to exchange goods or service for cash, not stating the amount is, in my mind, ignoring the  whole point of the deal, and I feel is just plain bad manner on the side of the trader.

I understand that the prices of certain things, particularly imported items, can vary regularly and by quite a lot, so even an estimate of the price, such as "around £100" would be helpful.
