If your air filter is clogged be it either dirt OR water then it will cause the pipe to suck flat as the turbo creates a vacuum between itself and the filter. The black smoke is the unburnt diesel.

Probably you had a dirty filter to start with then you have soaked it.
Take the filter off and then try it.

I'm told the bottom pipe to the intercooler collapses internally quite often, not a TDi expert though (not yet :roll: ).

all done the intercooler was partly blocked had to wash it out now it goes better than it ever has Thanx all who helped

Those fixes are the best, starts to get scarey pricewise when people start to mention turbo bearings etc, etc, etc   :D
