Just read a post in the Disco section and someone mentioned a spider on their wing mirror.

Is this a standard fit landrover spider ? or are some models without them ?

Land Rover spiders are a protected spieces.
They come as standard on all new and used LR's

AUdi's come fitted with Money spiders in both wing mirors I'm sure. They also seem to have a lifespane comparable to Galapogos(sp) Turtles, can regenerate from complete death, and ocasionally take a jaunt into the car.

My Disco comes with a spider in the mirror I dont see it for weeks then the mirror the window have that lovely web effect.My series2 has a few living in it somewhere,come the warm weather there are webs everywhere.It makes it feel homely.

i have one in my mirror. he has popped out to say hello at 70 ish before and changed his mind :lol: ....also have a few inside. on somewhere near the drivers side roof window and one in the map pocket above my head

Mines called Boris, he lives in the near side one & has been all over Britain & to France 3 times( best thing is you don't need a pet passport to take him on holiday \:D/ )

my disco has been off road for the past year while i'm rebuilding the v8 engine and in that time my drivers mirror spider has moved in a whole host of squatters...... so were do i stand in law with all these squatters?....... i now have the disco firmly anchered to the floor by over a dozen web anchers...... that leads me to the second Q?..... will the v8 engine (once completed) be man enough to move with all these ancher points?....

Hmmm, that depends if they are genuine Land Rover spiders or not.

The genuine ones have REALLY strong webs, they were orginally designed to hold the series vehicles together.

Don't even try to kill them..... If they are genuine they WILL fight back and are covered by the Evil Duck protection.

You may remove them as long as they are stored correctly or passed on to be used on another oval application.

The Suzuki doesnt have any, these are living in the mirrors of the Audi, so guess they are German 4-ring Spiders?

Should I be stocking up on Antivenom or anything? Are they liable to try and invade the Suzuki? or indeed anything else parked too close?

I started it out with a genuine LR spider, but I wasn't happy that it would take the punishment of regular off-roading, so I upgraded. The off-road version lives in my snorkel and is a serious piece of kit. It can withstand icy air blasts and driving rain.

Mine actually prefers the comfort of the inside of the top right of the windscreen, and his friend lives up at the top left....

Top tip, if your landy won't start... check the health of your spider! They just don't run as well without one :lol:

I know this because this morning in the snow my spider appeared to be hibernating, along with the starter motor......

Yes but has anybody tried ? Paddocks are quite a friendly lot, I am sure they would appreciate 50 phone calls asking for a "land rover standard fitment spider for N/S or O/S wing mirror"

Mine was happy today as I put the heated mirrors on in the cold weather. It was sitting on the glass and rubbing its hands together.

I tried LRPARTS.NET.... none to be seen. Not sure why.

I did here a rumor that The National Spider Protection Leauge want a ban on further LRS sales and a reduction of the speed limit of LR's with juvenile LRS's fitted. :P

Has anyone asked the spiders why they choose such a dangerous career in motorsport?

I blame the parents.

If you've been to Paddocks, you will probably have seen them crawling round all the bits in their warehouse, but because they move they are hard to track and so cannot be counted or located easily - they are free for collection (if you can find them) but CANNOT be sent mail order.

Though if you are really lucky, some packages come with a stowaway in them

Had a couple that lived in the Defender and they said it was too draughty INSIDE so moved out to the wing-mirrors.... :lol: :lol:

Have found one in the Disco once... but think he's hiding untill the summer :(

I think I must have acquired mine on a trip to see the mother in law down south. It's too cold for it outside at the moment and it has moved inside to a nice semi detached web with panoramic views of the bonnet (alright it's behind the rear view mirror) :lol:

Mine lives behind the head lining in the back of the 110.
It used to live in the front but decided it was safer in the back after nearly causing an accident, it decided to introduce it's self whilst i was joining a motorway.

Spiders are fine when they are more than two foot away.

A mate of mine witnessed a car zigzaging allover the slip road on the M62 & rolling several times, he helped the young lady out of the car & when she calmed down she said "it was cos a bl**dy spider dangled down from the sun visor, & my boyfriends gonna kill me cos we are trading the car for a new one this afternoon!!!"
The car was a write off,but the spider was treated for shock :shock:
