Well had a busy day today thought i,d get on and service my 300tdi and have a crack at the steering box leak :D
rather than shell out loads on a recon box thought i would have a go at putting a new seal in :? what an utter pig of a job it turned into
try as i might the drop arm would not budge with a normal puller so out with the hydraulic pullers and wind them up to maximum :twisted:
Nothing ..no movement hmmmm... loads of pressure on the puller maybe landrover loctite them on so out with the heat on the drop arm just to warm up any loctite ... good job it points at the floor as it would have gone into orbit if not :shock: when it eventually cracked off
Out with the old seals by drilling and inserting a self tapper so i can pull them out then just a case of fitting new seals, bloody fiddly job that is as well as you need to get them passed the circlip seal :roll: but managed to get them in , refit the drop arm and hey presto :D after a short test drive no leak on steering box any more :P
Couple of special tools needed for the job
1. swear box :lol:
2 small assistant as in pic
