discovery rear suspension

on the back of my disco ive got +2" pro comp shocks, old man emu springs, yeterday i fitted dislocation cones and scorpian lower shock mounts,

i noticed that the rear a frame on the axle was hitting the exhaust before the rear trailing arms maxed out travel (corrected ones needed asap)

was hitting exhaust just as it started to bend up over the axle. as i could not be bothered to mess about and wanted to get the job done i cut it off just before it hit

any one else had this problem and any ideas on where to route exhaust, had a quick look but its cold and dark now  :D

Not had that problem on mine, have you got the longer bumpstops fitted?

no i have not got longer bump stops, but cant see how that would have helped

i had the chassis up high on axle stands, rear, front still on the ground, had no wheels on rear and lowered axle down to max shocks  with trolley jack under the axle. it hit the exhaust before it limited either the travel on shocks or trailing arms!

No, the bumpstops won't help.

Normally you won't get both sides of the axle dropping to full extent at the same time, unless you intend doing any jumps with it!  
What's it like on cross axle? As that's where your more likely to be using the travel.

yeah thats true, i see wher you are comeing from, i havent had it cross axled yet, put wouldnt no now coz the exhaust section is out of the way! lens up the side of the garage  :D

if you've got +2" shocks on and the lowered shock mounts on, without extended bumpstops won't your shocks be topping out on full compression??
The reason i ask is because i have lowered shock mounts with standard shocks and +2" springs, i want to fit procomp +2" shocks, but was advised of this problem.

best check that tomoz, going to get some plastic this week to make some extended ones anyway, may have to do it a little sooner!

After reading this I think I had better sort some extended bump stops out as well. I dont have lowered mounts but I do have 4" shocks.

What height are the extended bump stops by the way? I cant see any point in buying what should be easy to make

Thumbs, check out paddocks im sure they are about 6 quid a throw..not really worth going to the effort of making your own!

im sure paddocks site last time i looked said not for the 300 tdi, any one no why?

mm4x4 do them aswell.

can anyone comfirm paddocks fit or not, im asuming if i ring them they will say they wont, need to order some wheel bearings aswell asap.

I've got the Paddock's ones on my 300 TDi so unless they've changed the design in the last 6 months then they should fit.

This can happen when you've caught the tail pipe in reverse. The exhaust gets bent and pushes the pipe nearer to the A frame arms.
You might be able to undo the joint around the rear seats area and turn the rear end of the box slightly to give a bit more room. Have a look to see how level the centre box is. Mine had to be slightly raised on one side to clear everything.

cheers wanderer that explains alot, rear box was smashed quite a few times before that c the grinder.  think the whole system will have to come off one day soon and a bit of fabrication work required.

another job for the endless list!  :D

Thumbs, i,ve got the extended bumps stops on mine fromm mm4x4 do make a difference and from memory think they were around the 8 quid mark each.
NO worries with the exhaust.....................it fell of at lunchtime today!!
now to make that side exit pipe at long last!!

side exit exhaust is in order for mine aswell, when i can be bothered to do that, so much else to do still  :shock:
