Electric windows
« on: February 27, 2006, 21:17:50 »
I found out today that I can use my electric windows without the key in the ignition.

First of all I had the key turned once for the radio on and the window was down already and I forgot to turn the key and pushed the window up button and it worked for an inch or 2 then it stopped and wouldnt go up untill i put the ignition on. but then I turned the ignition off and took the key out and it went up and down a few times and the passenger windows did when I pushed the buttons.

this cant be right?

Very true!!!

It doesnt have a time delay on it so like 30 seconds after the key has been taken out it gives you time shut the windows etc?

My windows did the same turned out to be the last owner had 'hot wired' the radio effectivly by passing the igntion, hence widows wipers all worked with the key in my pocket! Check the orange and white wire in the radio compartment is not connected to anything it shouldnt be.

There is a time delay on the electric windows in the 300's.
Switch off the ignition and listen for a "click" coming from the passenger footwell about 30 seconds later, this is the relay/ECU cutting out!!  :D

I think it stops when you open the drivers door too.

I know they work for 30 seconds afterwards and so happily turn the ignition off with SWMBOS window still open, happily knowing she can shut it herself, then I forget and open the door...... stop (+winge from the passenger side + grumble from me + have to turn it on again)

On My Cavalier you can work the windows with the driver's door open, or close them using the key as you lock it 8)

On an Astra I had about 10yrs ago, the drivers side window opened on its own :?

That in itself wouldnt be too bad, except I was travelling about 65mph on the motorway and it was Feb......

Oh, and yes, it was faulty, not a 30 minute delay from my home or anything like that ;)
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!
