SIII 2.25D Temp gauge
« on: March 07, 2006, 15:10:35 »
Afternoon, everybody, how's things?

The temp gauge on my 2.25D S3 seems to be over-reading. It starts off ok, but then within about five mins, it's right at the top. The guy who sold me the landy said it was the temp being over-read and not the engine overheating. Naturally, I would like this to be the case :D. Once running, the engine seems happy enough...

So, long story short, how would I go about testing the temp sender? Rig it up in a pan of hot water with a multimeter I guess - what sort of resistance should I get at what temp?
Or could the dial itself be at fault?

Cheers in advance chaps,

first i would measure the engine temp, best thing is one of those non contact thermometers, you want to measure the temp at the thermostat housing. if your rad is blocked it may seem cool but the engine block might be overheating.
iv got an old temp/fuel gauge you can have for nowt if you want to try that.

It sounds like you may have a bad earth mate. I have come across this a few times. Check behind your clocks and see if the black wire which fastens to the back of each clock is ok.
