ROAD TAX TIME !
« on: March 08, 2006, 12:11:10 »
Well the dreaded letter droped through the door. Money tight as ususal but with the budget fast approaching should I bite the bullet and buy a full 12 months tax or take a chance and buy 6 months.

Buy whatever you can afford at the time - buying 12 months now "just in case" only works once (if something does change in the budget), so don't worry about it.

I'd buy 12 months if you can as it's cheaper. If you can't afford 12, buy 6 months!

My view is the same, if you can buy it (12 months) do it, you win if it's increased in the budget, and you win because 2 x 6 months costs more than 1 x 12 months.

It's down to the cash in your pocket, you will have to pay 6 months (don't risk the SORN option as it would invalidate your insurance), can you stretch it without loosing out somewhere else?

In a similar manner, now internet banking is everywhere you could do what I've done and setup a 'savings' account e.g.

For road tax, open a seperate account (5 mins on internet) setup a monthly standing order of £10 (add another 2 minutes) and sit back and watch it mount up.

7 minutes effort, and a relatively un-noticed £10 a month, and when the tax reminder lands on your doormat there is £120 waiting to be used.  :D

And the 5 minutes and 2 minutes are a guess before anyone gets a stopwatch out

If MOT is also due then I would say 6 months else 12 months. This way it spreads them out, just as someone else stated.

You lucky git - I've just had three reminders for road tax drop through the letter box at the same time
All due at the end of this month - if I buy 3 x 12 months it will cost me £570 !
