Dont know about the bypass unit you quote, I just paid an auto electrican £40 I think it was to fit a cobra imobliser and disconnect the factory one, centre locking still works , no problems since.
Cheers.

Hiya,

Spider details: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stage1v8/TechnicalSpider.htm

But also talk to the remotekey.co.uk guys as they specialise in rover alarms replacements, fixing, improvements and totally disabling them.

Hope it helps.

I have had this problem on my Disco. I simply removed the faulty spider and then very carefully re-soldered the two main pins on the circuit board and put it back together. It's not stopped since. The fault is always a broken solder joint, nothing more.

I did try a 2nd hand spider but it didn't work as each spider is programmed to the main alarm unit.

The spider unit was an extra piece of security to keep Thatcham happy as far
as I am aware. The replacement jumper still leaves the vehicle secure and immobilised just not as heavily and much more reliable. The problem is caused as mentioned earlier by a dry joint within the unit. This is most a likely result of its position near the radio, heater etc. If you fit the jumper in theory you never have to take the dash apart again.
