Extra rear lights

I'm about to start the back end rebuild of the 110, and was thinking about doubling-up the reverse and fog lights........partly because I like things to look equal (!!!!) and also to give a bit more light when reversing.

I can't foresee any legal issues with doing this, as many vehicles have 2 rear fogs, and 2 reverse lights, but - does it matter if the fogs sit outside the reverse lamps or vice-versa ?

I'll try and explain that again. Can I do this (imagine you're looking at the back of the 110)

or should it be:

REVERSE FOG                       FOG REVERSE

this info might not be fully accurate but

when MOTing HGV's the rule on the fog light was

it must be at least 4 inches away from the stop light

now this might have changed but its a good starting point
and the reason why so many vehicles have one fog and one reversing light

I cant see it being a problem, in fact i have seen it done so know its possible and legal.

Looks pretty good if done right too :)

I keep looking at this picture & contemplating this set-up for the 110
Upper lights = tail & brake
Lower lights = tail & fog

I'll assume that the lenses will cope with a permanant 21watt (fog) light as they're essentially 'air-cooled'
Besides how many times a year are fog-lights used? (unless you're a numpty rep on the motoray)

Assuming that there are no restrictions on the number of rear lights (2 per side in Richards plan), it seems a possibility - especially as VWP seem to sell exactly the right shape and size for the Defender !

One thought I had was to put two additional tail lights on the rear panel of the roof - a bit like big wagons have on the top of the trailers

The alternative thought was to fit some orange LED strobes on the back of the roof panel, something to use in addition to the standard hazard lights - something like these:

My thoughts would be to go with the pattern on the vehicle shown & keep at least one set of tail-lights up out of the worst of the road-grime.
Plus if you don't have a high-level brake light in the rear door glass, the upper (standard) position keeps brake lights high.
