Metallica are amazing. Long ago when I was at uni one of my house mate's got me into them - I still love them. My house mate is no longer with us having succumbed to cancer. I recently bought some metallica DVD's - it's great to see how the guys wrote songs such as those on the black album.

In spite of the fact that I'm about to turn 38,  approx 1 year ago I bought an electric and started having lessons - inspired by you know who. Recently I've been learning the moshing from "one" and also ......."nothing else matters" - what a truly wonderful song. it gives me something to do when nobody wants to go out greenlaning.

Who was it who said that Metallica are just harder and faster with no melody??

In reply to the original question - Yes I have heard it, but didn't know who it was and as it happens I was in quite a busy place.  But from what I heard it was really really good.  I too love Metallica, big fan of the 'Black' album, was glad to hear it wasn't butcherd, but made to sound very pleasant indeed.

Saw them Live at MK bowl the year I graduated from brunel (my little pressie to me) and the black album was still quite new.  Nothing else matters lasted nearly half an hour, it was magic.  James was off stage resting his voice so the guy just sat on the front of the stage near the pit and you could see him work the strings. 8)

Now I know they say impersonation is the best for of flattery but i generally don't have time for bands trying to get famous doing other people's stuff, write your own bl**dy song.  If it sounds the same I think I'll stick with the original, if it doesn't it's a crime.

And Metalica sounds like Iron Maiden? what were you drinking at the time

metallica messed up after the black album

before the black they were pioneers

black they were pushing mainstream

now they are trying to recapture their originality but james wants to sing now! never a good idea ;)

tell you what though a much underrated band is the wildhearts

its not a bad cover.. but it leans more toward the S+M version ie slightly more stringy and 'floaty'
and as for metallica being an Iron maiden clone.....erm no they actually started off playing british punk bands music...listen to they Garage days stuff...my favourite 'SO WHAT' wonderful !!
Black album is my favourite purely because it came out at a time in my life when every song seemed to be written about my life at that time..Nothing else matters is a seminal track that a few have tried to cover and failed. but i think Bif has a damn good stab at it, treat it not so much as a 'cover' but as more of a tribute and I think you'll appreciate it more..
if i can work out how i'll try and upload the track onto the site...if someone wants to have a go , mail me and i'll send you the Mp3..
ps if you do come across the album, check out LET DOWN.. track2 on the album..
I also didnt realise we had so many Metallica fans on the forum, always nice to get a music debate going just to see what every one is into..

Black album was (and still is) fantastic
I did MOR in 94 Aerosmith and 2 stages highlight was Biohazard? inviting the crowd onto the stage 15 seconds and about 100 security later their set ended

and heres my 2 peneth worth
Sweet Dreams and Tainted Love Marilyn Manson are fantastic

you must admit though that st anger isnt their best effort, the drums sound like they were recorded using a cheap as chips drumkit and an empty room with no soundproofing.

trivum's cover of MOP is v good
but imho megadeth's cover of Paranoid is even better

esp when nick menza goes nuts at the end
