Oil seperator?
« on: March 24, 2006, 22:50:21 »
my 200Tdi has been tuned and has an allisports intercooler fitted.

I am getting some oil passed back to the airfilter by the breather pipe and the engine occasionaly runs hot.

Is it worth getting an Oil Separator for the breather pipe? I have seen one for £60 and is supposed to help in other ways as well.

Your thoughts?

Oil seperator?

hi bob
if you take the oil filler cap off and run the engine on tickover do you get a lot of  pressure (air) coming out of the filler cap ?
if so you will have probably got crankcase presure
not sure what sort of crankcase breathers you might have but
posible that they maybe blocked

excesive presure  could be piston rings letting pressure past them and into the crankcase then forces it back through breathers to air filter
taking oil with it and clogging up air filter

hope this helps

What does the oil separator do? What are the other advantages of fitting one?
I have an Alisport full size intercooler fitted too. I have not 'tuned' the fuel pressure, and my engine now runs occasionally hot too. I've put this down to the rad, and can live with it for the moment. I have no pressure in the crank though.

Not had chance yet m8. Lads birthday on saturday (but I did get some polybushes on the rear) and my rear chassis no longer looks like a bit of swiss cheese thanks to Porney (sunday). Wiring on the 110 next sat but should have chance to check it out on sunday (marking permitting)
