help sj413 fitting su carb on friday
« on: April 01, 2006, 19:27:47 »
i will start by saying what a good site you have.
i am going to fit a su carb to my sj413 using a modified manifold. i have a home made snorkel fitted with a cone filter on top and was wondering what is the best needle to use in the carb and where do all the pipes go.

thanks

andy

The best needle I've been told is the "BDL" and as for the pipes you just need the fuel pipe and breather ,maybe the dizzy advance some people use it some not depends which SU you have. I'll try and find a link for you.

i got a re-manufactured manifold off e-bay and it fits brilliant. removed the airfilter box and fitted a homemade snorkel with a k&n on top. pipes were easy to suss out. make sure you get the bracket for the throttle cable as you will need it and also put new gaskets on as mine leaked first time. i will put some pic in my album for you. if you need any more help just shout.

the su is a hiff 44 and it fits to the snorkle via tha bracket that came with the k&n off the 1275 mini. and a bit of the flexi from the orignal air filter set up. i will take a close up of it and put it in my folder. 5 min

yes only 2 bolts holding it on.
there are no other holes apart from the 2 holes for the bolts.

I am new to this site , and so far it has provided a wealth of information.
However I have a question. Some background, I have a SJ410 with a Holden Barina G13A 1326cc with an hif44 su carb on it.
First, What needle did you use in your Su carb?
Second, did you plumb in a new fitting for the vacuum advance line on the carb side of the butterfly valve. or did you just use the fitting that was there on the manifold side. or did you block off the fitting and the vacuum advance line.
I am unsure what to do . If you know of some one through this site that can help please let me know. I am from New Zealand so a phone call would be expensive.
Thanks
