What would be a symptom of a dodgy injector?
smoke - what colour? , noise?

You will get white smoke (unburnt diesel)
Can make running a bit lumpy and some times give a knocking noise as the diesel isnt atomised properly when injected.

is it likely to be bellowing out white smoke or more of a haze ?

or does it depend on the size of the problem?

Increased smoke... usually light grey, won't be black (at idle)

More pronounced diesel knock esp. at idle...

Low power...

Noise wise - if your getting more of a diesel knock at idle, then disconnect each injector one at a time, unitil the noise goes away...  thus finding a dodgy injector.

White smoke... may be a dodgy head gasket rather than a dodgy injector.

mine dont smoke at idle or on startup - even from cold after long periods of time.

it black smokes prior to turbo spool up - ie floor it in top doing 25-30 and there it is!

then grey smokes thru the rev range, or when left on idle for a while then give it a big rev.

not loosing coolant and is only using a drop of oil.

so I was thinking about injectors now.

fuel was adjusted up, but then i backed it off to where it was (I marked it)

... I even reconnected the egr

EGR wouldn't make a difference if already disconected...

What position is your diaphragm in???  Min, max, mid etc etc??

Did you adjust the torx bit on the top of the anode??

Have you checked for air leaks on the induction side - most likely post turbo?  Porous hoses, leaking intercooler, leaking inlet manifold etc etc.

Blocked air filter??

Bunged up Intercooler? (When was it last cleaned?)

the diaphram was at approx 1200 (if looking at the pump toward the engine from the offside) and i set it to about 1400 when i got the new intercooler fitted. it then developed this grey smoke over a period of time then got progressivley worse with the black smoking not only at low revs but then thru the rev range , so i backed it off to the original setting. it then stopped black smoke thru the revs but continued to a lesser extent at low revs.  

the torx was not touched wherever that is!

I think I need a pro to look at this!

its a twisted performance one

been on there for 18 months

never cleaned it out - so it could be due ?
