conversion plate fitment
« on: April 11, 2006, 20:55:33 »
hi,

i have a 2.8td isuzu engine with a conversion plate whic i believe fits a V8 range rover gearbox,

is the gearbox this fits the same found in the 90 V8?

and also, would this conversion plate fit onto a standar 2.5td 90 gearbox? if not, could i fit a range rover gear box to a 90? is it a straight swap?

reason being, i have the engine and would like a 90 so im thinking of buying a cheap 90 and fitting engine, but want to see if it can be done first!!!

cheers

It looks like you will need a V8 LT77 gearbox (long shaft). My  2.5d gearbox was only a short shaft(standard box).I am now fitting a Disco box.You need to loose the centre seat to do this!

Hi James

A V8 90 gearbox is different to a Range Rover box.
I don't know wether your Isuzu adapter plate will fit a standard
90's LT 77 gearbox but a both types of V8 Range Rover gearboxes
will fit in a 90.
The early type 5 speed box known as a long stick box requires
very little mods inside the cab, if you use a later type short stick box you will need to modify your gearbox tunnel & loose the centre seat.
The term long stick & short stick relates to the length & position
of the gear lever inside the Rangr Rover.

Hope this helps you
