Breaking a 200 tdi...your advise please.
« on: April 19, 2006, 14:59:54 »
Hi guy's n girl's, to cut a very long story short i just aint got the time for this off road lark any more. I race mx and enduro all most every weekend,  so that leave's the disco sat doing nothing.
Now i know there aint no money in old discoverys ( G-plate 1990 ) so i thought i'd have ago at breaking it for spares  :(
It has tax and mot and i know i can get it thru the next test, but i just aint got the time.
It's got a brand new 2+ lift kit with pro comp shocks, and brand new 265:75x16 anacondas  (off road tyres )  the lift kit and tyres have done 30 miles max.
Allso has a new stearing guard.
It's a three door seven seater, with a CB and a CD player.
The motor has done 118k but has has a new top end rebuild 12 months ago. She dont smoke or burn oil, and the gear box is spot on
Im sorry to waffle on but i'd just like to here your thoughts, is it worth all the messing about or should i just bang it on Eblag and see how it gets on?
Cheers peep's
Brendan.

      another one bites the dust     ...sorry to hear that mate. i have 2 thoughts that contridict each other. i bought my old disco and saved her from a life of being bean cans ect. i couldnt let her be crushed. sad to see an old girl being broken down to nothing    but needs must. you will probebly find she is worth more in bits to be honest mate.  stick a reserve on it and give her a try on ebay. if she doesnt reach what you want for her then brake it mate although it will be sad day
cheers

If you want to flog the Engine and Box(worth the most) and wheels and tyres..... I'd be interested in the rolling chassis and body/inside complete !

and I'm only in Stroud

If you haven't got time to use it, then you probably don't have time to break it.  Stick it on Ebay and see what it makes.

Hope you don't completely desert the 4x4 scene.  I really think you ought to come along to a comp safari or a Hillrally and see if you can't combine the speed thing with the 4x4 thing.

If not now, then bear it in mind when you've fallen off the mx'er for the last time!

Cheers

H

breaking will probably be about the same money as if you sell it whole at the minute but more effort involved, what would you want for the whole thing anyway?

Thanks for the reply's guy's
Just made some room in the lock up, so im going to stick her in there out of the way.
Just didn't want it on the drive way taking up space.
The thing is, i put a mint L/W in the very same lock up a year or three back, and it's never seen the light of day since.

H, every time i fall off the bike i say to me self......thats it, never again!
Then comes the following sunday and im at it again

Les, what's the plan with a rolling chassis? i still may be able to help.

Pux, let me know when your out next.
Cheers dudes

The old discovery's aint worth selling mate, unless you need the money.
If i was to break it, i'd only get a grand for it, and i anit going to get my hand's dirty for a bit of pocket money.
I could stick on Eblag, but i'd rather rub mustard in me eye's
It's still got 6 months tax n test, so i can still use it if i want....it's just having the time.
cheers dude

Hi Stratie, sorry to hear about the disco and just want to say cheers for the help you gave me on buying tyres for my disco. Just wondering if you were up for selling the tyres off yours as I would be very interested and I'm coming up to Cirencester soon so wouldn't be a problem picking them up. I'd buy the wheels as well if it makes it easier for you as I'll have to buy some at some point anyway.

Cheers
Tom

If you wanted to flog the cd player I maybe interested.

I am after the bog standard one that LR fitted under the paseenger seat. the 6 cd changer job. Sony I think it is.

I have had enough of my one ejecting the magazine and saying cd error the whole time and doing anything except play cd's!

Look's like im going to break it after all.
Having said that, i'll only do it if i get enough interest, i dont want to be left with a pile of bits i cant get shot of.
I'll post a thread up in the for sale forum this week.
