Where is the best place to put i HiLift jack on a 300TDi Disco.

put a chequer door plate on it then mout it to that so its nice and easy to get too when u need it  :D

If you havn't fitted hi-lift friendly bumpers and sills yet the best place to keep it is in the garage  :)  Seriously though i would fit it to the boot floor. It can be a bit inconvenient but it keeps it away from the elements and theivin' gits, and in reality you don't need to use it that often anyway.

mine is kept on the back floor most of the time. and then when i go offroad i stick it up on the rack out the way.

Mines on the back door.I got a mount from Mill-services and made a bracket to fit it to the spare wheel. The extra weight can cause problems if your hinges are not A1.

Mines mounted on the spare wheel when we go out to Play  :lol:  looks great too :) cost me less then a fiver from B&Q to make it up

Mind u now i have a roof rack soon be looking at sticking it up there all locked up safe

just made up 2 brackets over the weekend and fitted mine on the side of the roofrack similar to wizards costs a fraction of a proper mounting kit - paid about £10 buy the time had bougt all the bits etc

I wont leave the jack attached at night or during the week as the theiving little <mumble mumble mumble> will have it away.
What I have done though on the threaded bar I use to mount jack on is I've drilled a hole through the bar big enougth to take a padlock.
Its not the best lock in the world but it should be enougth to act as a deterant shoud someone fancy a nice new hi-lift

Had mine on the roof rack but a large tree removed the jack along with the roof rack...........so its now on the rear wheel carrier.

INside, it doesn't rust, get nicked, fill up with mud.  Keeps the weight as low as possible too.

I used to have mine inside the boot area on the floor. I replaced the whole rubber mat stuff (sponge) with marine 5 ply and bolted it to the floor panels. I then put big bolts through the ply to hold the jack across the load area just inside the door. Worked a treat.

I've now got mine on my SD roofrack like Dave & Wizard.

Have none of you had any misshaps with the jack being on the back door? It must play havock with your departure angle. I've clouted my rear bumper loads of times and bent it up hard against the spare wheel. The rear door on mine is now pushed in slightly from the force. Sticking a jack out in the wind behind must be asking for damage.

Hey not fair, not enough options. I would say not on a Discovery as they aint real off roaders. Stick to the bottle jack and leave the hi-lifts (farm jacks) to the real off road vehicles, the Defenders  :twisted:

As Julie said mine is on the roofrack quick and easy ish to get off. If you have not got a rack i would stow it inside the car cleaner and safe. Its a lot of weight to carry on an already heavy rear door and if you have big tyres as well  :shock: Some do thought with apparently no bother.

IMHO It needs to be inside the vehicle and secure.

The last thing you need is a hilift mechanism with mud in it. They can be damaging to the operator anyway.

Sticking it on the roof is better for keeping it reasonably clean but... They are heavy and could affect the centre of gravity. I've been in situations where a hilift on the wrong side might have been the difference between stopping on 2-4 wheels and rolling.

As I said just my honest opinion.

if you put it inside, dont bury it too deep, the last thing you want to do is have to unpack half your stuff, or climb about inside the truck whist covered in mud.
personally i'd stick it on either the roof rack, or the back door... wherever you put it will be a compromise.

I used to have mine bolted across the inside of the back door, low down. Easy to get at and protected from crap when not in use. I thought I had a picture somewhere but cant find it now  :( .  I had replaced my rear door card with chequer plate so easy job to bolt the hi-lift on and still plenty of space for a fold down shelf above  :) . Alternatively, just throw it behind the front seats like a lot do!

Do you reckon a dog guard would be strong enought to take the weight of one?

i had it on the dog guard in my old defender, as long as its a proper bolt in guard, and not one of those 'quick fir' jobs that clamp against the windows it'll be fine. :)

i reckon i'll put mine on the dog guard when i get a guard for the new disco...

..oh, and when i buy a new high lift... as the last one was nicked
