It's a little worn !
« on: June 26, 2004, 20:33:36 »
Background : When I did the auto box conversion on Tigger, the guy I bought the box from told me about a clunk when changing from a forward gear into reverse.

Well, we reckoned it was faulty transfer box.  I fit the whole lot, intending to change the transfer box at a later date.

Well with MOT time around again, Tigger was up on the ramp for a couple of other jobs, so I took the opportunity to change the box.

I think I found the source of the clunk !!

Yeah, I don't think it would have lasted too much longer.   It's the output shaft from the gearbox (the transfer box input gear runs on it)

at least its easier to change than a manual box output shaft, remove rear cover on transfer box, remoce input gear ,undo centre bolt & change output shaft.its a pity a manual lt77 or R380 isnt that easy

You can check it by removing the cover on the back of the transfer box and withdrawing the input gear....

Changing it on a manual box is a strip-down job, as the output shaft goes right into the evil darkness of the gearbox.

I take it that the transfer box input gear was the non-drilled type?  :?

Maybe worth the £40 to get a drilled version to stop it happening again Tim.
