I spent yesterday afternoon in casualty after the grinder ripped out of my hands and hit my leg, Leaving a nice hole and loads of bits of cutting disc. Oh and a grazed shin bone !
I am a carefull guy and try to work safely so take care !!
I now have some stitches and a sore leg. Very lucky really.
I will post a pic when bandage comes off. Another scar to add to the list !
Keep smilling peeps. :)

Had a disc come apart years ago and perforated the garage door.

Hope your leg gets better soon matey.. Yeah i'll be careful in the future, was using a grinder yesterday, cutting rust out of chassis. Started to get frustrated at length of time it was taking to do the job....so pushed grinder harder  ....thats when i nearly lost it, the thing caught and jumped back at me
I'll show it the respect it deserves in future and take it easy

Comiserations on the lacerserations bud,Ive always had respect for cutters since i saw a 9"incher run up the inside of someones leg, stoping just sort of the "important"bits  But i learnt the lesson of not to leave a grinder locked on.And have plenty of room to work

Hope you heal up quickly.
Never seen a bad accident with one (seen a couple of lucky misses) but I must have an active imagination when it comes to things that cause pain... so I've always been scared of 'em. I use em only when absolutely necessary (I always try to convince Bob its his job) and then if I have to its with extreme caution.

I wonder if there's a direct relationship between the relative cheapness of power tools these days (e.g. you can buy an angle grinder for under a tenner) and the numbers of DIY accident hospital addmissions. Years ago power tools were quite expensive - my first Black & Decker drill cost me £60 I recall- todays Chinese equivalent is less than £10. My feeling is there are an awful lot of dangerous tools out there in the hands of inexperienced folk.
The tool I've got that scares me most is my electric planner- that would expose bone for sure in under a second.
My uncle had a pretty grim experince with a router. He was doing some detail on a rocking horse when the router jumped up and struck him in the face. The bit got halfway through his jaw before it stopped- ughhhh!

Get well soon mate. I ran a rubber pad sanding disk into me wrist on a 4 1/2 inch grinder not so long ago. Good stuff skin, Once it had dug in, it wripped the sanding disk(a fibre one) apart. Got some cool scars tho, and you know what they say....'chicks dig scars'
Just havent found any that do yet...??

I tend to buy trade tools as I use them everyday although I do tend to get through grinders ! 4th this year !!
Its the wire wheels that wear the drive gear out. I am after some kevlar patches now to poper on to my overalls !!
Took bandage off today to re-dress and it looks better now its stitched !
Not a pretty sight when first done !
Thanks for the kind wishes chaps. :)

All the best for a speedy recovery.
Don't let gloves lull you into a false sense of security though!! I have a lovely scar just beside the main artery on the wrist where the cuff on a leather glove pulled a 4" grinder into my wrist when it caught on the disk. The Doctor said I would not be as lucky next time.
Its far to easy to get VERY dangerous tools form DIY shops these days. Where I work you would not be allowed to use them unless you had proper training (do you know how a good grinding disk should sound when you tap it) and also the amount of hours per day you use them is a big health and safety issue.

Even the blunt side of angle grinders comes very sharp and painfull, I have a scar running from under my left armpit to under my chin from where the
handle
of a 9" grinder caught me.
It know sits as a reminder to me to make sure the work piece won't move/twist whalst cutting. This was after abrasive wheels training and certificate, but theres nothing like your own mistakes for lurining from, though its nice if you can learn from others mistakes.

Sorry to hear about your incident Martin...at least you have a new story to tell when the 'look at my scar' competition starts one drunken night.
Seriously, glad you are as well as can be considering, could have been much worse

I've not suffered myself. but I've seen plenty of grinder related injuries.
Most aren't nice.

Blimey, I'm amazed how many of us have had grinder accidents/incidents. I always treat mine with the utmost respect, but they are so damn useful... it takes ages to get the job done with a hack saw; wire brush; vegetable peeler.
Anyway, all the best.
